Love this book!
I have been looking for fashion design books for a few years now, and the ones I want are always way too expensive. I never went to fashion school but I have been designing and selling gowns for over five years. I am also an artist, but have never been very good at the human form, more or less the hands and feet, and the direction of the body. What I like the most about this book is the variety of templates. This book has tons of templates and ideas. They have men, children, and women forms. It shows how to put movement into the body to make a more effective fashion sketch. Also very detailed instructions on hat and shoe design, if you would like that. This book is perfect for anyone like me, who just needs the proper guidance in making a detailed fashion sketch. I originally purchased this book to aid in a desgin contest, so I could have more competetive drawings. I was unable to meet the deadline, but after reading and practicing with this book I feel much more confident with my sketching. I am not someone who likes to trace but the book has dark enough lines to do some tracing if you'd like, (or makes great copies for practice.)Overall, I think I decided on a great find, I know I will have and use this book for years. I can now put my ideas on paper without being embarrassed to show them! I love it!

Best Fashion Illustration / Template Book Ever!
I love this book. John Patrick Ireland is a true master of illustration. This is a comprehensive set of modern fashion poses. I love his clean, simple style! The templates can be easily adapted to all areas of fashion for Womens, Mens and Childrens. I just bought his other book the "encyclopedia of fashion details."

Ok.
This book is ok. I agree with the other reviewer that it is best for entry level drawing. The croquis are decent minus the stringy hair, broad shoulders, and large, manly necks, but those are things you can fix. The color is horrible and many of the drawings just look downright strange and very much like strippers. I highly suggest to use this book as a starting point, no more.

Has templates with explaination of how to render them yourself
You will love how this book takes you through drawing and rendering fashion figures for all types of designs. The "look inside" feature on the Amazon site will take you through chapters. I use this book with a croquis and 3 other books.

Wonky drawings
I purchased this book to save time drawing figures when sketching ideas for garments. Unfortunately the fashion figures in this book are just not very good. I know fashion figures are supposed to be stylized but these models are stiff and top heavy. The males have a curious lack of hips often coupled by an unusual medical condition by which they are without any distinct waist. The women don't suffer from hiplessness, however both sexes lack butts. Yes I know, they are supposed to be skinny runway models, but their chests are pretty well built, and their lower halves look disproportionately meager by comparison. I think the book will still be useful for poses, but only standing and walking ones, as there are no seated or reclining models. I was hoping for a little more variety.

New Fashion Figure Templates.
A handy volume to have on the studio bookshelf, this provides a good selection of template figures to employ if you're in a hurry to get a project started or have limited drawing skills. The author goes through the motions of explaining how to develop figure drawings for the specific purpose of fashion, with all the adjustments to proportion, stance and dynamics required along with some examples of details โ faces, hair, accessories etc., - its a fairly useful, basic introduction to fashion drawing for the more confident student in that respect; I suspect though that most users will simply copy the templates and use them as their starting point, which is generally what I do myself. In addition to the usual male and female figures there is a useful section on drawing children. I don't particularly like the stylisations of the author's own examples but the fundamental structure of the templates is solid enough to build on (and improve on).Well worth acquiring cheap as it makes a useful resource to dip into for ideas and quick starter sketches. Do use the โLook insideโ option above for an idea of the kind of examples it offers.3 1/2 stars.
