Q: does it come with full set of tools & instruction book?

It only comes with a device to push the food down into the blades in the event they get blocked, which works fine. In terms of instructions they are straight forward. We purchased a separate recipe book which was useful.

Q: can you make a cake in it

You can make a cake in it but you have to use the baton and constantly scrape down the sides to mix it in to the choppy bits! And it needs to have some moisture in there too. dry ingredients its not so good with. Having said that it is still the best blender I have owned. Hope this helps
