Though I know in theory how to do some things like change a car's oil, I've never actually done it by myself because I am just as happy paying someone to take care of it for me every 3 months/3500mi. However I installed this on my own, which should give you an idea of how easy it is to do.I used the Amazon website's "garage" feature to filter parts for my Subaru Impreza. I cross checked this parts with other websites where you can pick up such parts so I can be doubly sure it would fit my car. Reviews for some spark plugs for my car mentioned that sometimes Amazon is wrong, so I would recommend doing that for all your parts to avoid the hassle of returning an item.I bought my Subaru used in 2008 and from day 1 I recall every time I would use the air conditioner there would be a strange, somewhat nauseating, smell that hung around for the first 5-10 minutes. I ignored it and learned to keep my windows open for the first few min to avoid the smell. I really didn't have the time to look into it, or the budget, as I bought the car out of necessity and had not much money left.Finally decided to buy this:I'm close to graduating now and I have enough time where I began to look into this problem. I figured it was the cabin air filter that was the issue and after looking at my manual (I don't know much about cars) and saw that it was a relatively easy, if somewhat cumbersome to replace. So I bought this for a relatively inexpensive ~$16. (I recently had to take my car in to the dealer for a free software update and they quoted me $110 to replace the cabin air filter for me).So I removed the 9 screws off the glove box as instructed in the manual, but I couldn't remove it completely as the wire connecting to the little light in the glove box wouldn't disconnect for me. So I worked around it. Pulled out the old one, which was DIRTY! (I've uploaded a picture of the old one), and popped in this one. I had to work around the one wire I couldn't disconnect but these things are fairly flexible so it wasn't too difficult. I did everything by myself, and I made sure I had everything I would need before I got started, including something to hold each of the 9 screws in.Results:I noticed a vast improvement in air quality. Not only is the A/C working sans-smell now, I don't get nauseous in the first few minutes like I used to, and the air comes out faster or with more force. I imagine the newer, cleaner filter, allows air to come through with less hindrance. This may be the first time it was replaced in its 4-5 years so perhaps that's why the difference was so dramatic?I think the $16 and 15-20min it takes to replace the item is well worth it if you're suffering from a weird smell from the A/C-heater unit. Or if you just want the peace of mind that you're breathing better air (again, see the pictures I uploaded). ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works good *by M***T on Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2018* This fits in my 2005 Saab 9-2x perfectly (and should also fit in the 2005 Impreza).One thing I'm not sure about is if the filter should be pushed behind the two black tabs in the front of the "filter box" or if it should sit on top of them (which is what the instructional video shows). It seems like there is a gap when it sits on top of them but I'm not sure if that's intentional. The filter is definitely the correct one, but I wasn't paying attention to how the original filter was put in when I took it out. Maybe someone can clarify this.I deducted a star because I don't really smell the arm & hammer in the filter. It's definitely fresher than the filter it replaced but I think for twice the price of a filter without arm & hammer it should make a more noticeable difference. I had the cabin air filter in another car replaced with the regular OEM filter and the difference it made is similar to this one. I would have probably just gone with a cheaper filter and replaced it more often than with this filter. Not that this filter is bad but I question the value proposition of the arm & hammer.Regardless, I'm very happy my car does not smell like "nature" anymore whenever I turn the AC or heater on. I didn't realize how bad these cabin air filters could get if you don't change them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better smelling air vent. *by J***M on Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2014* Bought this for a 2002 Subaru WRX. On my year car, these were optional from the factory, and apparently, mine did not come with one originally. I'm at 120K miles on the car, and the smells from the vents were a little funky after all this time.I bought this finally to fix the problem, and it was a fairly simple install, you have to remove the glove box in this car to get to the location of filter holder. The filter fit perfect for me, I heard some people say the filter was too small or doesn't fit right, but I think they bought the wrong one for their car if so.Since I didn't have a filter in it already, I didn't notice more air flow like some people report that had a clogged filter, but the funky air smell is gone and will hopefully help keep the dust, allergens and other smells from blasting in my face when I run the heater or A/C.
