Easy to use and reliable - definitely recommend
I bought this for a heated airer. It is soooo easy to use. Just gently touch the top and a green light comes on. There's a slider on the side to choose how long it's on for - I mainly have 8 hours or 5 hours. At first I thought it wasn't working because the green light flashed and the heater didn't heat up - bu then I realised I'd got it on a timer to delay it coming on. Once I flipped the switch it was fine. I would recommend this - works really well. I like the peace of mind that the airer won't be left on for days accidentally.

Not clear how to use it.
Great item but to be honest I have no idea how to use it. All I know it that when I tap the top the up lighter stays on for 8 hours and switches off itself. It doesn't come back on until I tap it again. I wanted something that would come on 8 hours, go off for 16 hours then come back on again for 8. This was to avoid reaching down the back of the sofa to the switch. It doesn't seem to do that but it is helpful for using elsewhere like the hall lamp in the evening etc.

Ideal for reducing energy wastage...
This Energenie Variable Run Down Timer is great! I attached a strip which has a number of mobile phone/camera battery chargers on it and set it on one of the 4 options of run times (1/2 hr, 1, 3 or 4 hours) . It has a count up time or a count down. The count up time apparently turns on at a pre-selected time. I can't think of anything I've got which would utilise that at the moment. However, the Countdown option is probably what everyone will most likely use. The device will shut down after whatever time you have selected in the option of run times. I've chosen 3 hours as I don't think anything will need more than 2-3 hrs charge time these days. Of course it depends on how old or how big your device is that needs charging. For example if you know your device will need 3-4 hrs of charging, then use the 4 hours option or if it's fully charged after 1/2 hr, use the 1/2 hr option. On the top of the device is a display light which is green when there is power going through it (on left side.) On the right side is a switch to turn it on or off (- when you plug it in the wall, you will see the light when you turn it on.) I like that you can gently touch it to turn on or off - I believe it is a sensor switch of some sort as there is no need for gorilla force type pressure to turn it on or off but just light finger tip pressure. There should be a sound of switch going on and a green light should be seen. I feel confident that all unnecessary chargers are off the mains and only run when needed. Especially helpful when teenagers use it as they always have lots of devices and lots of chargers. Ideal for the home trying to watch energy use and wastage. A friend told me it was on an internet eco store but I shopped here as prices were comparable.

Doesn't cut the power
Brilliant!! Easy to use and works perfectly. UPDATE AFTER 1 MONTH: The power is still running after the maximum time. The light on the socket comes off after 6 hours to show that the timer is not activated, but the power is still sent to the socket and the appliance connected still on. Same with1, 3 and 6 hours.

Easy to use and does exactly what it claims to do - excellent!
We have a GTech cordless hoover, which runs from a large Li-ion battery which of course needs charging when it's been used. I asked GTech if they recommended leaving the charger plugged into the machine all the time it's not in use and they told me emphatically not to do this. The solution seemed to be to have some way of charging it for long enough to fully recharge the battery and then turn off. So that's what this little gadget does. I set it to three hours and after using the cleaner, I plug the charger back in, touch the button on top of the timer, and it charges for three hours and then turns off. So, it does exactly what it's supposed to, is dead easy to use and so far seems reliable.

Good little device but I'm not sure how long it functions properly
When I first bought a few of these they seemed ideal for charging various devices for a limited time period. It was good to know, that after a certain time period, the devices would stop charging. I started using them in more situations such as having an aromatherapy diffuser or white noise generator on while I drifted off to sleep knowing if would shut off after an hour or so. The build quality seems fine but occasionally they seem to 'lose the plot'. This week, I've woken up with timed devices still going, hours after they were supposed to have stopped. The next night, without changing any settings, they were on for the required time. I retured one thinking it was just a single faulty unit but a couple more are now misbehaving.
