An Officer and a Gentleman [Blu-ray] [1982] [Region Free]

This is one classy film. It combines the old school romance feel of earlier Hollywood films with complex characters and a tough gritty environment.The film has great pacing, I thought the actors were all very well cast in their roles and that there's a lots of story and character development. The plot is centered around Richard Gere's character a talented but undisciplined man from a broken family. He enlists in naval aviation, not because he loves his country but rather for the status and glamour of being allowed to fly jets. He and the other candidates are put through grueling physical hardship during the training exercise. The other aspect of the plot is the romantic connection that develops between Gere's character and Paula Pokrifki (Debra Winger).I bought the Blu Ray version and the film has a great picture and a well thought through colour design. There's lots of greys, browns and greens during the early training. When on leave though and visiting various bars the colours are warmer and brighter, more white, red and pinks. Paula usually wears rich colours, especially red when with Gere's character where as she wears more drab colours when at work in a gritty noisy factory. The Blu ray comes with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. (Full screen)Winger I'd say here is presented as an exceptionally pretty and attractive actress who they try and make look a bit ordinary, from an average home doing a ordinary job. In reality she's good looking enough to be a model, it's kind of hard to believe she's single.Top Gun really rips this film off. You have the arrogant recruit, the hot love interest, the ups and downs of training, the death of the friend,The film is definately a product of the 1980s the themes include single parents and broken homes, women in work and increasingly complicated relationships between the sexes.The film picked up 2 oscars, one for the music (electric guitar included ) and another for the performance of Louis Gossett Jr. as the drill instructor who must lick the cadets into shape.

No idea how many stars to give it, i just want to point out that the UK blu ray has no special features.The import from the US, which is region free, has several including a 28 minute extra, which i believe are also on the 2 discspecial edition dvd.I'm fed up being ripped off by UK blu rays missing the extras. I now feel i need to research every single one i buy before i make a purchase. Buy the imported ones and maybe things will change. The postage isn't much, and you pay NO customs charges if the item is under £18. Lots of reputable sellers with excellent feedback. Sure the odd blu ray or dvd comes with a broken case due to the handling, but these are cheap as chips to buy. You can get 50 genuine blu ray cases, theyre identical to the ones you get in the shops, on here for about £15. Enough to replace a lifetimes cracked cases.

Classic romantic film set in the Navy Officer recruits. Film That made Richard Gere and Debra Winger a household names.

One of my favourite movies which looks bright and fresh on BD. Ok, it wasn't designed for HD, but the story of the relationship between Mayo and Gunney Foley is more akin to the friend you don't want but desperately need.

Il film non ha bisogno di nessuna presentazione, ha fatto epoca. Dispiace per l'audio Dolby solo due canali, un po' misero per un blu ray.

Ich habe mir den Film angeschaut gehabt und wollte ihn haben. Deshalb habe ich ihn mir hier gekauft. Bin sehr zufrieden.

Che dire, chi non l'ha mai visto almeno una volta nella vita? Lo vedi altre 100 volte e non ti stanchi mai di vederlo. La rielaborazione BluRay è accettabile, mantenendo pur sempre la pellicola originale i colori sono stati resi più vivaci.

Ein toller Film aus den 80er jahren. Tolle Qualität auf Blue-ray.Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Erinnert mich an eine schöne Zeit in den 80er Jahren.

Que de souvenirs. Ce film est bien meilleur que TOP GUN par exemple.
