Suspend Your Belief ............ And Dynasty Still Comes Up Trumps!
'Dynasty's third season finds the series growing significantly in terms of ratings, which of course, is every tv executive's dream. However, inversely, somewhere along the line, during this season, there appears a number of rather fundamental changes, which certainly over the longer period, results in a weakening of the show's effectiveness and ultimate credibility. Somehow the show and its characters turn from being something that can genuinely at times seem real and truly sincere, to a sort of larger than life pantomime extravaganza. This pretty much is due to a deterioration of quality within the scripts. For the viewer who has become accustomed to the tone of the first two seasons, this season can often border quite frankly on the bizarre, which of course to a degree, can seem rather addictive, depending on how the viewer chooses to approach it. It certainly isn't bizarre in light of what was to follow, during the shows most commercially successful period, and thereafter, but unfortunately much of the groundwork to the show's eventual deterioration, is most definitely started here.Events happen fast here, and almost at times at breakneck speed. The Carrington clan stumble upon a new addition to their family, in Blake and Alexis' long lost son, Adam, who conveniently pops up shortly after they make an appeal concerning the abduction of their grandchild. Adam turns out to be suitably evil. Kirby, the butler's daughter, arrives unexpectedly and shakes things up in the Carrington home, marrying Jeff, as does Krystle's ex husband, Mark, who re-enters Krystle's life after some prompting from Alexis. The biggest event, perhaps, is the return of Steven, who has been injured in an oil rig explosion, and has had to have his face surgically reconstructed. Actually, that was the basic premise in introducing the new Steven, played by Jack Coleman, as the replacement of the departed Al Corley. However, like much of 'Dynasty's third season, the new Steven isn't half as convincing as the Steven who went before him. There is still much to enjoy about season three, however. There are some quite engrossing sub plots existing alongside the gloss and extravagance and excessive nature of much of what's on offer, which means there is always a plot thread that is of interest, even if there are other aspects which seem all too ridiculous. Visually, the series is becoming more striking, too, and the acting, especially from John Forsythe, always holds an air of integrity within its delivery, which means despite the plot and often script shortcomings, it is still easily digestable, without descending into farce. 'Dynasty', during season three, still comes up trumps for the viewer, but just don't think too deeply about it. Reserve that for seasons one and two, which both stand up a great deal better to scrutiny.

Love, Lust and Lip Gloss
Season 3 is when Dynasty really gets going. Alexis, now a wealthy woman in her own right after marrying Cecil Colby on his death bed, is intent on ruining Blake's company and his marriage to his beloved Krystle, and now she has a new partner in crime: long lost son Adam. Poor old Jeff is still running around after Fallon, Alex's lip gloss gets more orange and more glossy by each episode, as she goes shoulder pad to shoulder pad with Krystle, and anyone else who gets in her way. Steven reappears with a new face, and this season sees the return of the glorious Sammy-Jo, as well as the introduction of new character, Kirby. These people knew how to bling it when P. Diddy was still running around in short trousers, and the sets and costumes are still impressive, nearly thirty years on. For fashionistas, you will notice how many of the outfits and looks suddenly look fashionable again - the 80's are back. And long may they reign.

Dynasty and a stronger plot season.
I'm collecting this tv show's DVD's. The third season continues all the plot lines left on a cliffhanger in season 2. It also starts showing the true colors of the main antagonist Alexis Carrington Colby (Joan Collins) as she continues to torment the lives of the main characters: mostly when her kidnaped son with Blake, Adam Carrington, returns to her life - literally - 25 years later. Overall, the plot development of the third season was nearly must more palpable and well written than season two.

Revisiting the eighties
Dynasty - Series 3 [DVD] [1982 ]I thoroughly enjoyed renewing my acquaintance with the Carrington/Colby Dynasties. This series was one that I preferred to Dallas. It was always better for the appearance of Joan 'Super Bitch' Collins as Alexis who must be one of the best baddies in soap history. It was fascinating to see Jack Coleman take over the role of Stephen Carrington as I now watch him in Heroes. Some of the plotlines are very contrived but nevertheless the sets/costumes are great fun to look at. I look forward to Series 4.

One or two stand out episodes like the opening of La Mirage
Entertaining as ever especially the plots to take over Denver Carrington and Adam poisoning Jeff. One or two stand out episodes like the opening of La Mirage; Alexis chastising Adam when she discovers he's been poisoning Jeff; the now famous boardroom scene where Alexis makes her presence felt as a new Supremo & Blake venting his anger on the directors. Wish Dynasty had been more like this & less "cotton candy"; the Lily pond fight is rubbish by today's standards but the fiery cliffhanger with Alexis & Krystle trapped in a burning cabin is great. Gordon Thomson makes a good new villain in Adam, too & has an intriguing secret past.

Much better than Dallas
The first episode I saw nearly 30 Years ago was Season 3 when Blake, Krystle, Fallon and Jeff were standing on the roof with Claudia and the Baby when Claudia suddenly dropped the Baby and it fell down...from this dramatic episode on I was totaly catched by DYNASTY and every single episode was a lot more entertaining than boring Dallas. And Paramount did a fantastic job with the remastering, it seems that Dallas is not worth it with a more than poor picture quality...? POOR Dallas fans

Champagne and Cat Fights
This is a great DVD to buy if you liked the 80's, appreciate shoulder pads and enjoyed a good soap. The packaging is good, the dvds are set on in a book type format, so you 'flick' through the dvds. The quality of the pictures is good, which allows you to relive the high life and high drama, only comment is there is a lack of 'extras', but still a 5 star watch, roll on season 4.
