good price good product.
Nice little sifter, arrived next day through amazon, the build quality is decent, screwed together not just nailed. Have used it for 2 days now and no issues, holding together well, and I am sifting through old flower beds that were covered in rocks for years! what a mess..my only issue is I probably should have got a larger sifter, for what i am doing or built one. This one would be perfect for someone who is working in already established garden areas, not the rocky mess i am dealing with.

Works well
Used to sift small red rocks out of soil. The soil sifter worked very well and made the task quick and easy. The small shovel and gloves went straight to the garbage as they were such poor quality. The shovel bent the first time I tried to use and the gloves were bulky and were obviously “one size fits all”.

Convenient gardening tool
When we received this item I thought it was smallish but turned out to be just right for my gardening enthusiast wife!

It’s smaller than advertised.
While the correct dimensions are on the listing, the main photo shows a screen the size of a wheelbarrow. It’s misleading intentionally.

A well-made hand soil sifter kit with some interesting additions
Quick Summary: A well-made hand-use soil sifter with some interesting additionsDescription and Comments:The package comes with the soil sifter, a green metal trowel, and a task-specific pair of gloves. These items are packaged in an interior bag to keep everything intact and in place. The soil sifter is well made of what appears to be pine. It is unfinished, and the boards are securely fastened with screws. The dimensions of the soil sifter lend it well to the task of hand sifting, where you will alternate between holding the sifter with both hands or against/atop something so you can use both hands in the medium being sifted (on the latter I usually opt for holding between my knees or propping the sifter edges on two overturned buckets or pots). The kit does not come with any directions for its use/care and that is not uncommon with garden implements. I recommend keeping all components of this kit in a sheltered location over the winter (e.g., covered shed, garage, back-door broom cupboard) rather than leaving them outside. I am also going to apply a natural preservative to the wood to retain its integrity and, in this case, I will be applying the same mineral oil that I apply to the wood cutting board in my kitchen. The green metal trowel is functional, and the full coverage of green paint will assist when washing off soil, and prevent it from rusting. However, for scooping and moving soil, a true soil scoop would have been more practical for use with a soil sifter and the associated bulk soil movement associated with its tasks. Nonetheless, the trowel is a welcome addition to my overall garden arsenal of tools. The task-specific pair of gloves is surprising. They feel rubberized and appear to be made of either bamboo or some waterproof material (similar to the nitrile gloves commonly used in gardening and farming). However, the most surprising thing about them is the plastic appendages affixed to the four primary digits. From first examination, the gloves appear to be intended to keep your hands clean and dry, and the appendages to aid in the task of sifting and scratching the soil medium within the sifter. The soil sifter package gives you the option to be either “hands-on” or dump-and-shake in your approach to sifting soil, which is a very thoughtful approach to the design of this package.

Lightweight Not Important to me, Functionality, Durability, and Value Are
I’ve built two of my own wood and screen sifters over the years (both still in use), and have a lot of experience with hardware cloth - this forms the basis of my review. I wanted a smaller one to screen compost over a 5 gallon bucket, which is why I chose this item.Likes: 1) wood construction seems good quality - 1/2” wood pieces were screwed together and might be glued also; 2) 1/4” hardware cloth mesh is a good size; 3) it fits pretty well over a 5 gallon bucket; 4) function - it does a good job of screening the compost; 5) the 2-3/8” depth of the top chamber is adequate.Dislikes: 1) the hardware cloth is quite thin - no problems in early use but I am concerned that the cross welds will start to come apart over time (sometimes I vigorously rub clumps over the screen to get them to break apart; also, the seller should list what gage steel the hardware cloth is so buyers can make an informed decision); 2) the bottom piece of wood that holds the hardware cloth in place is only 1/4” thick - I am concerned about the durability of that over time (soil sifters tend to get banged around quite a lot); 3) the included gloves did not match the picture - I received these odd plastic-claw-tipped gloves - they work ok but not something I would choose to use; 4) the included hand shovel is low quality and the green paint job had an area that was missed; 5) value for price - IMO this is a light duty sifter with questionable long-term value for the price; most gardeners that want to sift soil already have their own choice of gloves and shovels on hand; so I would recommend that the seller eliminates the gloves and shovel to lower the price of the product itself.Because of the dislikes above, I have deducted 2 stars, and my overall rating is 3 stars. In summary, I’ll use this sifter for compost as planned, but I’ll be careful with how roughly I handle it in the hopes that I can make it last. If I were to get another sifter, I would look for something more heavy duty.
