The different 'edges' and dimples and shapes make for great textures in the Salt dough just as they would in Icing. They could probably be used for clay work too. I wouldn't ONLY look at these for working with for icing purposes. They are a good price, arrived very quickly and offer a wide range os tools for making different shapes and textures. Perfect for what I wanted them for.
