I have only tried one other time to burn a picture in wood and found It quite tricky not to make any errors.This kit enables you to be much more precise and create some very intricate designs if using stencils. Its also a lot safer as you wont be using a very hot tool to burn the images onto wood. Instead you heat the paste with a heat gun (not supplied) which means its also suitable for children to try out. I did find using the heat gun a bit of a chore - bit like watching paint dry, but thankfully not quite so time consuming.The wood I used probably isn't ideal as the heat gun started to burn the wood on the thicker spread gel areas. I found a small stencil from a face paint set and used it on a wooden spoon and it was much easier to burn the wood this time using the tub of paste.All in all I found the paste and pens worked as advertised but they seem a little expensive. It would have been useful if a few small pieces of wood and a couple of stencils were included but otherwise I can't fault the package which would make an unusual gift for a crafter.

Harder to use then expected, takes some practice but results are good after practice if you stick with it.

This is a great little wood burning kit if used properly and have a few practices first not like me and jump in head first and think I know I will try something different, it worked out eventually but took me a fair bit of time. I first bought the best flat piece of wood I could find as I wanted to make a show piece for the wall in our new bedroom but instead of just drawing and writing with one of the two wood burning pens provided along with different size tips, I inscribed into the wood first then went round with the largest of the tips on the pen making sure I went up and slightly over the edge then used the heat gun as in the instructions, this gave me the finish I wanted a burn around the rim of all the image and a 3d effect. I don’t think it’s bad for my first project thanks to this great wood burning kit, I think I might have a new hobby and it’s at a great price for the first time starter. In the kit there’s also a nice size tub of burning paste and a rubber squeegee so you can use a template, just stick it to the wood of choice then pour on a little amount of paste and spread over the template with the squeegee then peel off the template and go over the wood with a heat gun and then admire your work of art.

The instruction leaflet is very badly printed as it cannot be read without a magnifying glass.For the first time if young children are handling it is better it is done under supervision of an adult as there are no ingredients mentioned. The heat gun should be done by an adult just for safety of the children.This method is a very good method to use and has less messing about. Once the child has been supervised and learns the skill they can be left to their own creativity. It is very good and easy way of getting wood works done. It is easier to use flat pieces of wood that are well sanded down. It is also a quicker method of doing wood carvings/burning. Using the pens is also less time consuming. The only thing that takes the time after the designing is the time for the ink to get dried depending on the climate of the day, before using the heat gun. Once the heat gun is used and all the burnt residue is wiped of the wood the design can be sealed to last longer. It is a unique and easy way to learn the skill. These pens make it easier for a person who is beginning with the skill. It also allows for intricate designs or fonts to be done. Practice will make it perfect in time. I did struggle initially with the pens now I hopefully am getting a bit better at it. Very good innovation. I was really excited about this and saw the good reviews.However it just coloured my wood and the paste didn't burn. I tried a few practices before this picture and they all just stay this yellow.Gutted as I was hoping to gift my friend but instead I have ruined the board.

I currently have a pen which heats up that I use to etch and burn patterns on wood, but it takes a long time to do to get a good effect as the pen does not heat up to a high enough temperature, so I was really pleased to get to try this Teexpert gel pen kit.The kit comes with two double ended pens and spare 'nibs' that you can use to draw a pattern as well as a pot of wood burning paste, a spatula and some sandpaper.I had a real problem getting the fluid to come out of the pen even after I warmed it up and pressed the nib down lots of times, so in the end I gave in and dipped the pen nib in the wood burning gel. This worked and I drew something resembling a flower. I then applied a hot air gun to the area and it burnt away the paste leaving a blackened flower. This worked okay and I think the pens will work properly given more time or at least I hope they will.It is a nice set, but will take practice to get the desired effect and I was impressed with the ease in which the pattern turned black. I will carry on using it and try to refine my drawing skills so I can create gifts for my family and friends.
