SKY Box - Excellent replacement hard drive
I bought this 2TB SkyHawk to replace the default 500GB drive in my DRX890WL Sky+ HD Box. The SkyHawk has been running fine for the last 6 months, no problems. Most Sky+ HD boxes contain a Seagate Pipeline or Seagate Video hard drive; these are available on Amazon, but they're all old stock. Pipeline/Video stopped being made around 2014 (6 years ago!), the SkyHawk is Seagate's replacement for these drives; why buy a 6 (or more) year old drive when you can get something brand new?!I have bought several 'upgraded' Sky+ HD boxes off Amazon and Ebay, on opening them up the seller has just stuck a Pipeline/Video in there (because they're cheap). I have also come across some 'upgraded' boxes that have old Western Digital AV-GP drives, these have long since been replaced by Western Digital Purple Surveillance drives. The SkyHawk and WD Purple are both good drives. My preference is for the SkyHawk as I prefer Seagate drives, they're in most of my computers at home; I also work as an Infrastructure Engineer for a large online travel company, we have two data centres with around 2500 servers, the HP Blades and other physical machines the servers are running on have mostly Seagate drives. In addition most Sky+ HD boxes I have opened up have a Seagate Pipeline or Video in them. Also the Pipeline/Video run at 5900 rpm, so does the SkyHawk, the WD Purple runs at 5400 rpm. The SkyHawk is just a better matching replacement for the original.Other than the obvious increase in disk space, the only other thing I noticed upon upgrading was that fast-forwarding/rewinding was considerably faster than the original Pipeline drive. My hard drive is mounted outside the Sky box in a NAS enclosure, this allows me to backup the drive. I have a total of four SkyHawks, the live one in the NAS enclosure, and three I use for backups. I create sector-by-sector backups using the DD command on Linux, it takes about 7.5 hours; the source and backup drive are in a USB3 dual caddy.I used ExPVR to migrate my programmes from the original 500GB drive to the SkyHawk.

Arrived quickly, well protected and was easy to fit.
Not sure how to review a HDD. Arrived very well packed, on schedule. Drive was bought to replace a similar Seagate drive in a Swann CCTV system which had failed after some six years.New drive fitted in. Formatted and is now recording. Running very quietly, in fact no noise can be heard outside the enclosure.

Does what it says - space good - works well for me
I bought this for my Humax pvr/dvr, due to a soft file system problem on the original Sata-1 1TB disk and to upgrade to a 2TB disk. The dimensions of the disk were Ok despite being thicker (3rd dimension the depth of it) than the original it was replacing. The space on it is the 1 MB = 1,000 * 1024 bytes rather than the 1,024 * 1,024, as is usually the case these days.It is working fine for me.

Easy setup
Purchased for my NVR, setup was easy, pretty much work straight away.

1 Star, not for the HDD but how Amazon shipped it.
Dive arrived and my heart sank as it was handed to me rattling around in a box with a small sheet of bubble wrap half heartedly wrapped around it. My fears were confirmed 5 minutes later with a dead drive. Not surprising.I have seen this mentioned a lot with how Amazon does not understand how to send out such devices. This must be costing them a fortune in unnecessary returns.I will no longer buy mechanical drives from Amazon.

alternative Naz drive - Data Store
as a surveillance dive the skyhawk is a realy good but as a naz drive it is probably the one of the best options having the same harmonics and seagate rotational vibration sensors as the IronWolf I often install this drive for data storage in workstation systems and have none of these drives failed to date however one would not recomend using this dive for the operating systems other than Linux it might be a bit slow

Great price for huge capacity
I had a HDD start failing on my PVR ..... so decided to swap before total failuure.Swap over was very easy just a few simple screws ..... form factor identical ........... impressive going from 500MB to 2TB, and its plug & play.Once it had formatted & brought itself on-line I transferred over all existing recordings.Very quiet, fast and great capacity for the price. My first Desk top computer had 30MB HD (5") and had to have OS on that as well.Incredible that I can slot 2TB into my video recorder, and HD is cheaperf than the 30MB would have been.,
