If so, did it work well?** A: I took my horn with me in this case on a trip to Brazil. It worked very well. There was no connection in between flights so j am not sure what the situation would be like if there were any connection flights in between. In all, the hirn went and came back without a single dent. So no, can't hold a music book. The larger pocket is as big as the whole case on the hard shell side where the back pack strap go (so naturally you'd want flat items in there if you were using the backpack feature) and the longer skinnier pocket expands a bit more and is on the softer side of the case (it also has the insert for pencils, reeds, etc). I absolutely LOVE it. It is light weight, easy to carry, and has plenty of extra pockets for storing neck straps and reed boxes. My alto is a Vintage Selmer Mark VI and I was very concerned about how safe and secure it would be in this new case. I have to say I am completely confident carrying my horn in this case. Despite being light weight, the sides are very solid and all the parts of my horn are held securely in place. Love the Velcro for the mouth piece and neck strap.
