Fantastic way to clear your lungs.
PARI O-PEP provides a great way to help you clear your lungs from secretions. I got this 'pipe' for my dad who suffers with fluids going into he's lungs. The pipe like device has a metal ball inside of it and by blowing out air you force the ball to go up and create resistance. Additionally the metal ball provides vibrations which further help you clear your lungs.Pari O-Pep comes in a little storage bag with instructions and a lanyard. This device works really well and helps you not only clear your lungs but also helps strengthening them.Well made fantastic simple device.

Call me overcautious but I'm of the mind that it's handy to have a wide range of medical supplies and devices on hand. This is something that, although you may think you'll never need it, it is actually quite useful to have around whenever you have something caught in your throat or you have a stubborn chesty cough. It works almost like an inhaler, except that you don't squirt a mist but rather just breath in and out. The device causes the air you breath in to vibrate ever so slightly which helps to dislodge blockages in your throat or lungs, namely mucus. You may be thinking that sounds bogus, but it really does help shift it and helps you to recover faster since you're able to clear it away more effectively. While I do think the device itself could be cheaper, I do think the construction of it is sound enough and the function works well to where I think it is worth the cost. Just think of how many times a year you or someone you know gets a bad cough or cold. This can really come in handy for those times. I'd recommend having one on hand if you find yourself concerned about such things.

Pretty good, but way overpriced. Edit turned out to be poor quality.
This is a standard example of this device, also known as a flutter valve. I've had several different ones before and this is almost exactly the same. Basically a plastic tube with a large ball bearing which seats into end of the tube and which you lift by breathing out and emptying your lungs. The ball rises and falls quickly producing a fluttering effect on your lungs. That's it, no intricate technology and no inherent qualites that justify a price anywhere near fifty pounds. Indeed the last one I purchased was a fifth of this price and came with three different sized ball bearings, rather than the one supplied here. Therefore can't recommend it at this price and it would need to be much cheaper to be of good value.Edit. Started leaking air around thread and the ball bearing won't move. Had to seal it with tape, but then you can't unscrew it for cleaning etc. Poor quality.

Easy to use and strangely relaxing.
This thing is great for if you have that lump in your throat that no amount of coughing seems to bring up, especially during allergy season (which is year-round for me). It's a sturdy, well-made device with a large ball bearing that sits in a funnel. Your breath going into it causes the ball to vibrate, which travels down into your chest and makes a super relaxing, rhythmic drumming. The vibrations in your airways help dislodge the gross stuff so you can cough it up. You need to keep your breathing measured while you use it or you won't make it to ten minutes. I kept zoning out and blowing into it like a trumpet, which left me dizzy...It comes in a little bag with a lanyard in case you want to carry it around your neck for some reason, and you can take it apart for cleaning. The instructions say you need to do this after every session to prevent bacteria getting into it, which makes sense if you're using it while you have a cold or the flu. Despite being super hard wearing, it also states the device needs to be replaced after 300 washes, so unfortunately it won't last forever. I've been using it daily though, so I'm going to get some good use out of it.

Very curious, with some caveats
Firstly the instructions detail that you should not use this without having instruction - That's a pretty odd thing for something sold to the pubic, so keep this in mind - Doing it wrong could cause issues, dizzyness etc. It's a well built and solid device with some pretty big medical chops and it appears it is probably something for a medical centre or someone who has a specific problem - I get chesty colds and the other half is asthematic and stuff goes to her lungs and that's why i got this.I'm pretty well at the moment, but with some sceptisism gave it a go. WOW is there an effect or what - It is very curious how your breath with the heavy ball bearing makes quite a deep vibration. I really wouldn't have believed quite what happened from the description. Now I don't know if these vibrations will help shift mucus, but having tested it, I'm very hopeful for when i need it.It's NOT cheap at almost £50 and there is that warning, so proceed with caution.

Interesting respiratory therapy device for home use
I keep having a productive cough and was looking for something aimed at clearing airways. This PARI O-PEP (oscillating positive expiratory pressure) device comes in its own bag with the large ball bearing in the front pocket. The device needs to be opened and the ball popped in before use – and removed between uses. I have dexterity issues and did find it a little hard to open and harder still to close but I got there in the end.It comes with 3 thick instruction booklets, 1 in English which I read before use and saw it says not to use this without being shown how beforehand by a respiratory specialist. I went ahead, anyway but was cautious with this in mind, especially as they tell you to stop if you get dizzy. They recommend putting your hand on your chest when you use this so you can feel your chest vibrating which I really did. It was very interesting and is something I intend to use whenever I have chest issues, something I get regularly but it's good to have options and to feel like I'm helping myself. I'm not that clear on the science behind it but I'd rather do something than nothing. There are details on how to keep the instrument clean to avoid problems but, apart from opening and closing it, I found it easy to use, 4*
