This is the second book in the series and can easily be read as a stand alone
Eighth book of my holiday reads. This is the second book in the series and can easily be read as a stand alone.I loved the theme of the dark web in this book. A poor unsuspecting bloke picking up a CD of which I could never have imagined what he ends up watching. Down to not just handing it in like any good citizen would do, he puts himself and his family under threat.I love the bit of romance going on in Graces personal life as well as his working relationship with his colleagues that at times brought some much needed relief to this truly gripping read. Another great read and can't wait to read more in the series.

Easy Read
Being a bit of a sucker for detective fiction, I found this book an easy read. I had read the first book and enjoyed it. I thought the story line was fairly good but I disliked the use of Americanisms and descriptions of the character's belongings including make and model. Much use of the F word but maybe that's just par for the course these days. I found the female characters rather unrealistic and shallow. The relationship between Cleo and Grace was horribly syrupy, the sex unnecessarily detailed. Branson constantly addressing Grace "Yo Old Timer" really started to grate and the finale was all rather convenient. I'm not sure if I'll read the next one in the series.

Another fantastic book by Peter James
Tom Bryce, company owner, picks up a CD on a train that somebody has left behind. Tom fully intends to hand the CD back to its rightful owner but before he does, he looks at the disc to see what is on there, which proves to be a huge mistake. He witnesses a murder on the CD but he is unsure what to do especially after the perpetrators realise he has the disc and they trace Tom. Tom has the support of his wife and he goes to the police, which has massive consequences for both him and his family.Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and his team have to establish the identity of the victim, establish the identities of the perpetrators and establish their motives as well as ensure the safety of the Bryce family. The book follows the investigation of this disturbing crime. This is the second book in the hugely popular Roy Grace series and picks up a matter of months following the events of ‘Dead Simple’. ‘Looking Good Dead’ seamlessly picks up where ‘Dead Simple’ left off.I really enjoyed this book. The book itself is really well written and structured. The chapters are written in such a way that you just have to read on & on. Peter James is a brilliant author, in that he describes events in such a way that you feel part of the team and as if the events he describes are happening right in front of you.Again the characters are well written and believable. Roy Grace is a man battling his own demons as his wife is still missing and his life is seemingly on hold until he finds a resolution to the situation. Roy’s best friend & colleague, Glen Branson is dedicated to his work but he is also a married family man. Glen’s wife is getting very upset with how his work takes over his life. It seems as though he has to work on improving on his work-life balance. Peter James writes about strong characters, who also have an air of vulnerability. The villains are shown to be crafty, sinister and downright creepy. The story starts off at a gentle pace but the drama & level of tension build until a dramatic and terrifying conclusion. In short I really did enjoy reading this book and would definitely recommend it to others. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this fantastic series.

Brilliant murder mystery
Tom Bryce is on his usual commute home when a passenger leaves a CD on the seat next to him. However, in trying to find the CD's owner, he soon becomes a witness to a murder. Although conflicted after he and his family are threatened, Bryce bravely decides to make a statement to the police, specifically to Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a man with a troubled past. But this is just the beginning for the Bryce family, who have no idea that someone is making art out of murder. This novel had everything: a tense and riveting plot, high-speed car chases, brutal murder scenes and humour. Although I was initially confused as to how the two plot strands were connected, all became clear as they entwined climactically in the end. There were murder scenes and corpses that were so vividly described that I was literally grimacing at how gory and violent the writing was. There were moments of humour which made me smile and relieved some of the tension and was a nice pause from the gruesome themes. The novel ended on a cliffhanger, leaving me wondering if James will return to this in a later book.Overall, Looking Good Dead was a fantastic murder thriller that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good murder-mystery. I will definitely be reading the next book in the Roy Grace series.

Not good enough
An intriguing storyline, from an author whose books I had never sampled before, made me buy this. The book is okay, but I would be lying if I failed to admit that it did not meet my expectations. The storyline is great, that is not the problem. Indeed, the chapters with Tom and Kellie Bryce are very interesting and move the story along nicely. However, I cannot say the same about the Roy Grace chapters, I found many of them utterly boring, with the exception of the one dating Cleo and those in the last third of the book. Now, if the whole book was as interesting throughout as it is nearer the end, then I may have given it five stars. However, as with other authors' books these days, there is too much hanging about instead of moving the story forward. The reader expects to be entertained, not to be bored yet again, just after a previous chapter has made the story more interesting. The author also likes to use acronyms liberally, which I immensely dislike to see in books.

a couple steps too far!
I have read and enjoyed several Peter Robinson novels, and enjoyed quite a bit of this one. But I found it was over the top in several places, first when detailing the torture of Kellie, and second in Grace's sex scene with Cleo. Grace has always seemed a bit limp to me (maybe because of the TV shows), but I found that description improbable. These things made the reading go patchily which made a lot of difference for me.

LOOKING HOOD DEAD
Roy Grace is flung into a most bizarre and equally terrifying murder enquiry. A young man finds a CD on a train. The result of his viewing the CD on his laptop will change his life and that of his family in a most hideous way. This is a tremendous novel from Peter James. So glad I found this on Amazon. Definitely a book not to be missed. Highly Recommended

I love Peter James
I bought his first book, loved it.This is the second in the series and just as good as the first one.I have ordered the next four books.I like how all the characters get introduced and then we see how they are intertwined. And always something unsuspected happens. His books are easy to read, and would want to keep reading to see what happens next.

Not a bad series ...
Unfortunately, nowhere as good as the Reacher series by Lee Child.

Another Roy Grace thriller!
Great reading! The only character that comes across a bit unreal is Cleo. To me she appears rather as what a man would like his perfect woman to be than a real person. All the other characters of the book are realistic and the plot is well constructed and thrilling.
