Shakespeare UGLYJRGCBO Ugly Stik Jr. Fishing Rod and Spincast Reel Combo

I bought two of these, about three years ago, for twin grandsons to use when they visit us at the lake. I have since upgraded poles for the twins, and now their younger siblings are using these poles. The poles have held up great and I am confident that their young cousins we’ll be using them in the future. I did replace the reels with Zebco 33 mini so that I could switch the crank ( one was right handed and the other is a lefty) . The original reels were mounted on poles the twins had at home they lasted less than a year before failing.

I ordered this for my 4 year old nephews birthday. It is the perfect size for him. I could not find any poles in the store for kids besides those cheap cartoon character poles. When we took it out and tried it, the reel was not working, was not reeling the line in. I knew from previous reviews that the reel was kind of cheap and other buyers had problems with it. I exchanged it and the new one works fine. I did also contact the manufacturer about it just in case the replacement pole has the same problem. The manufacturer just asked me to send a picture of the pole and reel and a picture or my receipt as proof of purchase. They also sent me a new reel. It's not the same one that came on this pole since that reel is only sold with the pole in this combo. The reel they sent was another spin case reel and seems to be better quality. The pole is great but you may have a problem with the reel. I am happy that I purchased it and happy that I was able to get the replacements

Grandson loves it

Great length/size for my 4 year old who loves to fish. I bought this brand because I have never had a problem with any of my Ugly Stik rods.He’s caught perch, rock bass, and bass on this rod. I do wish the rod tip was more sensitive so he could feel the bites better but overall, this is a good starter combo.I replaced the line shortly after he started using it as he lost a fish to broken line but overall, I am happy with this purchase for him.

Nice little combo. Bought one green one pink and one orange. Was bought for a 4yr old girl 5 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl. The reel is simple click and flick which they have no problem using. Much better quality than the "character" rod and reel combos most kids receive. The only complaint I have is that the green combo had a bent handle on the reel and a tune broke on the drag. Easy enough to fix but disappointing.

This is a very nice all fiberglass rod with solid fiberglass tip. It is very tough and difficult to break. The reel is made of plastic but has metal gears and a decent star drag system. The system casts well and has held up to many casts. When you first receive the reel the drag is completely backed off and the gears will not engage. Just tighten the star drag next to the crank handle and all will be fine. I believe many of the negative reviews about the gears not engaging are from individuals who do not understand how this drag system works. I plan to purchase two more of these for each of my young grandchildren.

The pole is great, and kids love the fish weight it comes with. The reel is garbage. Id replace it with Zebco 33 micro real or just buy a dock demon for your kids if you actually plan to fish with it.

Overall great rod feel. The reel is smooth with its anti-line tangle mechanism. Has a great pop at the end of the rod when you throw it. Great for kids to get some nice lure air time. Def buy!

Was worried about tangles with it being spincast but so far so good and the kid loves it.
