I've got a few dozen magic arms, maybe more. I used to have a favorite. Now this is my favorite. It's capable of holding far more weight than any of the others I've had. And the quick-connects. ::chefs-kiss:: amazing.I've got nothing bad to say -- this is top notch engineering and manufacturing.

First look at the IFootge Spider Crab MA5-6 Magic Arm and one might be inclined to think, “wow, that’s an expensive articulating support arm.” Then it’s received. As soon as it’s unboxed, there’s the immediate realization that what’s been paid for, is what’s been gotten. The MA5-6 Spider Crab Magic Arm is every bit as beautiful an object in form as it is functional in practical use. No wonder its reputation precedes it. Moreover, it’s a testament to the marriage of British design and Chinese fabrication. It would be right at home in the design department of the MOMA.Included with the kit is two quick release heads incorporating a D-Ring locking system for ease of connection. At the connection end of the QR head is a very cleverly designed, spring-loaded 3/8 screw; if instead the head is connected using 1/4" threads, the outer 3/8” threading recedes back into the head, exposing the necessary 1/4" screw. On each side of the connecting threads are spring-loaded, receding locating pins.The Magic Arms elbow is ratcheted, similar to an Arri Rosette, preventing any chance of slippage. At the same time that the easy grip propeller handle locks or unlocks the magic arm’s elbow, it’s also locking or releasing the ball joints holding the QR clamps at the end of each arm, another design marvel.Each of the QR clamps incorporates a double locking system, requiring the release of two levers, creating an immovable grip of the QR head and extra security for expensive equipment. Each of the three locking mechanisms used in the IFootage MA5-6 Spider Crab, that includes the elbow lock, the ball joints and the QR clamps, create, for all of their intents and purposes, an unyielding grip. When locked down, they are as solid as if they’d been epoxied.Thoughtful design is again evident when the IFootage Magic Arm is put to use, showing up as its convenient and quick adjustability. For example, the elbow clamp can be loosened just slightly, allowing for the manipulation of the ball joints without allowing the angle of the elbow to change, thus avoiding awkwardness of every joint being loose at the same time. The arm can be connected to a camera cage using either the 1/4" or 3/8” built-in threads of a QR head, or with the included coldshoe adapter fitted to a QR head; either way, the convenient quick release of the entire assembly or just the attached device remains available. Every detail has been considered, even the way the locking ring of the coldshoe adapter threads down flush to the platform of the QR head.The IFootage MA5-6 Spider crab Magic Arm is, in my experience, the epitome of what a magic arm can be; it’s professional quality equipment.
