> EASY RECIPE
Tapioca pearls and pudding (or custard) are two different things. Theoretically, you can mix hydrated tapioca pearls in pre-made pudding, "instant" pudding (which in my opinion tastes horrible), packaged "cook and serve" pudding mixes, or pudding from scratch (e.g., using the recipe on the back of the bag--but that's alot of work). I use the following easy recipe which makes great tasting tapioca pudding.TAPIOCA PUDDING MADE WITH BIRDS CUSTARD POWDER> Begin with 1/4 cup of tapioca pearls in a 4-cup measuring cup *> Add milk to make a total of 2-cups of milk and tapioca pearls **> Optionally soak the tapioca pearls as long as overnight> Microwave 2 minutes> Stir-in 2 tablespoons of sugar> Stir-in 1 tablespoon of Bird's Custard Powder 300g, SLOWLY, a little at a time, mixing VIGOROUSLY***> Microwave 2 minutes, stir with a fork or manual whisk> Microwave 30 seconds, stir, repeat, until thick. If you are uncertain about the thickness, then microwave 15 seconds at a time until you are sure---you can't really overcook it. Watch the level in the measuring cup--if it gets near the top (i.e., nearly boils over) stop the microwave immediately.TAPIOCA PUDDING MADE WITH VANILLA, COCONUT, CHOCOLATE, LEMON, BUTTERSCOTCH, ETC MIXES e.g., Jell-O Cook & Serve Vanilla Pudding> Begin with 1/2 cup of tapioca pearls in 4 cup measuring cup> Add milk to make a total of 4-cups of milk and tapioca pearls *> Optionally soak the tapioca pearls as long as overnight**> Transfer to an 8-cup clear glass mixing bowl.> Microwave 3 minutes> Stir-in one (small) 3oz package of mix (even though the box recipe calls for only 2 cups of milk), SLOWLY, a little at a time, mixing VIGOROUSLY***> Microwave 2 minutes, stir with a fork or manual whisk> Microwave 30 seconds, stir, repeat, until thick. If you are uncertain about the thickness, then microwave 15 seconds at a time until you are sure---you can't really overcook it. Watch the level in the mixing bowl--if it gets near the top (i.e., nearly boils over) stop the microwave immediately.NOTES* I generally use whole milk but you can use 1/2 & 1/2 for richer pudding, or 2% or skim milk for a less-rich pudding. The Birds custard mix contains no eggs, so tapioca pudding made with soy or almond milk would probably be vegan. It is important to use a large measuring cup or mixing bowl because the pudding can boil over in a few seconds** You can pre-soak the pearls in milk a few hours to as long as overnight if you want, if you want them to be softer in the freshly made pudding. In my opinion, about 4 hours of pre-soak is ideal. If you don't pre-soak, the pearls will soften over time in the frig. Use all or part of the milk for the pre-soak.*** Mix vigorously, I strongly recommend a mini-mixer such as Norpro Cordless Mini Mixer, 5 Piece Set (which costs only $4 and is very useful for other mixing chores). Get a good whirlpool going with the mini-mixer, and slowly add the sugar and then the custard mix. It is important to add the pearls first, because they act as mixing balls to help incorporate the pudding mix faster and easier. The amount of milk called for is 2X that of the Bird's or Jello package recipes. The tapioca pearls take up volume and themselves contribute starch to the mix which is cooked and thickens the pudding.OPTIONAL FRUITIn Step 1 you can add up to 1/4 cup of dried fruit, such as dried cherries or raisins.

Tapioca, who even remembers what this is?
If you don't know, tapioca is a wonderful pudding, among other things. That is why I bought it. We make most of what we eat and I was looking for something for desert. When you make this you are basically making a custard, milk and eggs. I cut the sugar down from 1/2 cup to 1/3, but you could go down to 1/4.I tried the recipe on the back, beating the egg whites and folding it in. But honestly that takes too long, so I just throw the 2 eggs into the milk mixture and beat then there. If you are looking for a healthy natural alternative to chemical filled deserts, this will do the trick. Easy to make and delicious. It is a big bag, and you only use 1/3 cup for a batch. However I think I will be using it up quickly. You can also use tapioca to thicken stews, etc.

Great for bubble tea; fits through regular straws
Excellent tapioca. I like that these are the white variety without any added coloring agents or sweeteners. This makes them ideal for recipes. I haven't used these to make pudding yet because I bought them primarily for bubble tea.I got these instead of the larger pearls that are typically used for boba for two reasons. Firstly, they can be sucked through a regular sized straw so you don't have to buy hard-to-find fat straws. These fit perfectly through standard cheap straws and reusable straws. Secondly, you only have to soak them for two hours before boiling them instead of overnight. I can put some in a glass to soak when I get home and enjoy some bubble tea right after dinner the same day. They're very convenient for that.

PERFECT! Great DIY deep conditioner!
I purchased this after watching a curly hair video on youtube and she used it to deep condition her hair along with some conditioner mixed in. She mentioned multiple times that it mad her hair soft and I thought she was just exaggerating.... She was so right, my hair is so SOFT right now it's not even funny. And not only that, you definitely get quite a bit of pearls in a 24 oz bag, but be warned, the bag doesn't really stand up so make sure you put it in a storage bag or a container to keep pearls from going everywhere. And now I get to try tapioca, too!(Nathi's video here:[...]

... tapioca is one of those things that can help like the BRAT diet
Purchased this product for my son who was fighting a stomach bug and after being told that tapioca is one of those things that can help like the BRAT diet. Even though the product looked to be of good quality, I still soaked (for a few minutes) and washed the pearls well before cooking (I typically used the pearls to make a vegetable pudding for my 1-year old). The pearls were too small so I ended up with a sticky pudding most of the time which was not perfect but OK. However, I will buy this product again in the future if the need arises as it is really difficult to find in stores (including the Whole Foods).

I really enjoy good old fashioned Tapioca like my mom used to ...
I really enjoy good old fashioned Tapioca like my mom used to make. I use three cups of milk, one half cup of sugar, one half cup of tapioca, one teaspoon of Vanilla and two eggs. I cook it on low slowly bringing the pot to a boil. When it is near the boiling point I add the two eggs after beating them in a cup with a hand blender. If they aren't beaten they tend to lump when the eggs are added to the mix. I then stir constantly until i achieve a low boil as it thickens up. Yum yum. I prefer it hot. My wife prefers it cold.

Poor packaging
Liked the product but may order from a different 3rd party as the bag was busted and they rolled everywhere when I opened the box.

Excellent....
Made this tapioca three times before I got it 'right'.Thought I would follow the directions on my Minute tapioca and adapt...NO!Thought I could microwave the tapioca as in Minute tapioca directions...NO!Finally, broke down what really was an easy process, following basic package directions (with less cook time) and this resulted in the best tapioca ever. Fluffy egg whites that cooked to a souffle consistency in a great dessert.Perhaps my range and cookware hold heat more as my tapioca cooked in about half the time.Perfect consistency and sweetness added to the enjoyment!
