Olababy Silicone Straw Sippy Cup for Toddlers 1-3, Unbreakable, Lemon 9oz

I purchased this as a transitional cup for my 12-18 month old toddler when we were moving from bottles to a straw cup, and overall it has worked very well for that purpose. One of the main reasons I chose it is that the cup, lid, and straw are all made of silicone. It also comes with two different straws, which is a great feature for transitioning younger children. One has a slower-flow valve, while the other provides a more regular flow, so you can change the straw as your child becomes more comfortable drinking from the cup. My child was able to start with the slower flow straw and quickly transition to the regular flow straw. Even without handles, the cup is easy for little hands to hold. It’s also very easy to take apart and clean, and it’s dishwasher safe. There are two downsides worth knowing before purchasing. First, it is not leakproof, so I wouldn’t consider this a cup that you can toss into a diaper bag without worrying about spills. This is more for helping baby hold the cup and practice or drinking at the dinner table. Second, if you’re planning to use this for breastmilk or another liquid that needs to be warmed, the silicone doesn’t transfer heat efficiently enough to easily warm the contents while they’re inside the cup. I found it much more practical to warm the milk separately and then pour it into this cup. This isn’t necessarily a problem with the cup itself, but it is something I wish I had considered when purchasing it specifically for the bottle-to-cup transition. The price is a little higher than I would normally expect for a toddler cup, but overall I think it’s fair for the quality and design. I would recommend this for parents looking for a simple silicone cup to help transition a toddler from bottles to straws, especially because of the two different straw options. Just be aware that it isn’t leakproof and plan to warm milk separately before transferring it into the cup.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed by these sippies. The smaller size was perfect to teach my baby how to drink from a straw. They designed this so intentionally. When you put the lid on the cup, the straw fills with liquid higher than the liquid in the cup. This blew my mind because I’ve tried teaching other children how to drink from a straw and it’s actually quite hard to teach them to continue sucking over and over until the liquid finally reaches their mouth. In my experience the child would quit sucking because there was no payoff. I couldn’t get them to do it until they were old enough to understood my verbal instructions to keep trying until they finally got the liquid. But this design completely bypasses that whole problem! On the smaller sized cup, the liquid came up almost to the tip at the end of the straw. This was ingenious on the part of the designers! They balance the seal and the air pressure to fill the straw when you put the lid on! This made teaching my baby how to drink from a straw basically 100% intuitive because liquid was in her mouth after one suck. I didn’t have to try to coach her to suck again and again for an extended amount of time before the liquid actually came into her mouth. This completely delighted me. It made my very tough job of teaching how to suck long enough to get the liquid basically nonexistent. It did the job for me. I will say that this awesome feature was one that I had to balance with the air hole on the lid. At first the liquid spilled out of the straw again and again for me. But when I finally realized the hole was clogged in the manufacturing process, I stuck a pin in it and clear it enough that I didn’t have that issue. You should know the smaller size and the larger size are actually made differently. I loved this because I felt like the smaller one was designed to teach a baby and the larger one is for a child who already understands. The larger has a stopper in the straw for backflow and the smaller has none. The stopper makes the sucking a little harder for a baby because you actually have to collapse the straw or suck it hard enough. The air holes are also different between the two sizes, my guess is to address the difference in how high up the straw the liquid goes when you put the lid on. The thing that just impressed me so much was how thoughtful the design was. I’m just completely delighted. Yeah, if your kid drops this on the floor and you don’t pick it up it will leak. (I think the smaller size is more likely to leak because it doesn’t have the backstop feature.) But when my kids have dropped it, I just pick it up and there is maybe a drop or two at most if you don’t let it just sit on its side. It’s nothing like it’s immediately spraying everywhere. It’s still pretty contained. So impressed! This really hit my ‘delight’ button. Now ordering a bigger size for my baby who learned from this product how to suck from a straw.

One Quick Cleaning Tip (The Catch): Dishwasher Film: Like many silicone baby products, after several dishwasher cycles, it can start to look a bit worn or accumulate a faint soap/water spot film. Fix: I occasionally give it a quick hand scrub with hot water and mild dish soap to strip away any detergent residue and keep it looking fresh. Bottom Line: Despite the quick dishwashing extra step, the design itself is unbeatable for early straw training. Highly recommend if you want a reliable, hassle-free transition cup

Truly love this little cup!! One of my favorite things about it is that it’s completely silicone, and it only comes apart into three pieces which makes it really easy to wash and clean thoroughly… I don’t have to worry about little areas inside the cup or straw where mold or buildup can get trapped. I’ve used other sippy cups with a lot more pieces, and this one is definitely much simpler to clean and makes me feel like it’s actually totally clean. It’s also lasted really well for us. I used the 5 oz version with my first daughter for a long time, and the only reason we eventually stopped using it was because she started drinking more than 5 oz throughout the day, so a larger cup made more sense at that point. Now I’ve started introducing it to my 7-month-old. She hasn’t quite figured out the straw yet, but I really like that it can be used as a regular little cup or with the straw, so she has different ways to learn. If you’re deciding between the 5 oz and 9 oz versions, I would probably recommend sizing up to the 9 oz if you want to get more use out of it as your child gets older. The 5 oz has been great for us during the earlier stages, but we eventually outgrew the capacity with my first daughter. Overall, this is one of those baby products that I’ve actually used for years and am now using again with my second daughter. It’s simple, easy to clean, durable, and I really like the design. We recieved this cup in the mail yesterday, I washed it and tested the straw by myself before giving it to my baby. The suction works just like any regular straw which I LOVE because it means she will learn how to use it. Yeah she's gagged once when sucking up too much water but she's already learning how to control how much water she brings up. When I gave this to my daughter for the first time I wasn't expecting her to know how to use it within the first day but suddenly my husband and I looked over and she'd figured it out. I recommend doing a trick I found online (I only did it a few times) where you: put the straw in the water, put your finger over the top of the straw so that it grabs a small drop of water, then hover the straw over their mouth and feed the drop to them until they start doing an "O" shape with their lips, then put the straw back into the cup and give it to them normal. Within a few minutes she'd started using it correctly. The texture of this cup is super soft but the material itself is firm. I like this because my daughter and chew on the cup when she's teething without it being hard and painful. The bottom is a bit flared and weighted so that its stable when she sets it down but the cup itself is very lightweight (aka easy for my daughter to throw). I didn't realize how tiny it would be! But it's the perfect size for baby hands to comfortably hold onto. It also stores more than enough water for her age (9months). I don't think it'd be enough for 2+ years. The entire time she had it she was flipping the cup over and rolling it and we didn't have any issues with water spilling out. Maybe a few drops but not too much. However, the cup also was less than half full. The cup arrived quickly after it shipped! It was packaged in a bag and even came with a little straw cleaner. I highly recommend this cup if you are skipping the sippy cup like we did.

If I spent as much time studying in school as I have researching baby cups I could have gotten a doctorates degree. And after everything... I still haven't found the perfect cup, but I haven't given up hope. I like this cup a lot, I got this cup when baby was 7 months to help transition from bottles to straws and cups, baby is 11 months now and I use this cup more than any others. Things I like: It's so cute! I really love the color and that its opaque so I can see how much liquid is in it. It's really easy for my baby to hold. The straw has a stopper so it cant be pulled out. It has a lid and it fits really well. It's super easy to clean (I only hand wash it as silicone can end up holding soap flavor). It has a flared bottom and that's always important. The cup has ounce markers. Things I don't like/wish were different: Volume, I wish it was a little larger, if you fill it too close to the top and put the lid on you will have an overflow, so I can only fill it 3/4th full and need to get a refill through dinner. If the cup is full and it tips over (a.k.a the baby throws it overboard) liquid will spill out of the straw. And lastly price, felt like a lot of money to spend on a cup... but I bought it anyway because I'm desperately seeking perfection. It's pretty good, until I find my perfect match, this one is at the top of my recommend list for a first transition cups.
