Works a treat...Update: 21.9.18. This little tester has today possibly saved my life, or prevented a fire. I kid you not.Just recently I had been using a short extension cable, having moved some equipment around in the room, and although everything seemed to be working fine "something" made me check it with this tester. It showed only one light and my first thought was the tester must be broken. Not so. On closer inspection it had done its job perfectly.I dismantled BOTH plug and socket ends of the extension cable and the socket end had been MISWIRED, with Live and Neutral the wrong way around!I can only assume this short extension had been missed when I had checked all the sockets in the house. It must have been in storage and not in use elsewhere. Job well and truly done!

This could save your life! A simple tester that is easy to read.
Plug this in to a standard 13A UK socket and you would expect the three confirmation lights to come on. Live to the correct pin, neutral to the correct pin, earth connected. Safe to use. It's when one of the lights does NOT come on that you need to be cautious and wonder what the socket you are plugging into has for wiring behind it.I've experienced sockets with the LIVE / NEUTRAL reversed and with NO EARTH (potentially lethal error). Well this little unit will tell you immediately if there is a problem with a socket you have wired yourself or have inherited in your house from others who may not have known what they were doing.Additionally, use it abroad with your UK adapter plug to ensure you and your family are still safe (we know that some countries are less stringent about wiring than us in the UK).An inexpensive, simple checker that could easily save your life - no excuse for not having one. A permanent resident in my toolbox (and suitcase).

Ideal
Seems to be fine for the job and works well here in the UK both on my home supply and - the reason I bought it - on my motorhome supply when hooked up. Taking it to France in September so will update this review after that.Updated after use. Toured France for a while last month and found this very useful indeed. I remembered to plug it in on all but one site we visited so at least we were aware of what sort of supply there was to the 'van. Based on this I have now bought a reverse polarity hookup so on the next trip I'll use this plug to check the connection type and then use the reversed lead where it is needed. Electrically speaking it is better to be safe than sorry.

As good as socket testers twice the price
This is great - it does everything more expensive plug-in socket testers do. The only thing it can't test is N-E inversion, but no tester of this type can do that as N and E are usually bonded together where the mains enters the building. I keep one in my PAT testing bag so I can do a bare-minimum check that the installation is ok when I'm out and about.

Very Useful
Wish I'd had this over a year ago when I replaced four sockets in one room. When I came to change one again this weekend I found I'd reversed the Live and Neutral wires. I ordered this gadget, got it next day and tested the other three sockets, and sure enough all were reversed, although I used each for over a year with no problems. I've since checked everything else, with no other errors. Now that have this, I'll use it each time I change a socket, no matter how sure I am I've done it right.

Electrical safety
If you travel around and plug your mains tools or test equipment into many unknown 13A outlets, use this tester beforehand. It will at least show that live, neutral and earth are all connected correctly and potentially safe. If any of the red neon lamps don't light - use a different outlet and warn the owner. It's not uncommon for 13A socket rear wiring to have a loose grub screw or for the springs which grip your plug pins to have overheated and become weak. I've found earths to be completely missing and live/neutrals to be reversed.

Perfect for testing your Live, Neutral & Earth connections on your plug sockets!
Does exactly what it says on the box!Simply plug this device in and 3 LED's will mean your socket is wired perfectly. I had to purchase a simple device like this as unfortunately our house is plagued with dodgy sockets and thankfully found a few sockets that were not earthed correctly (that could have easily caused electrocution!) For the sake of a few pounds, its a nice, simple device that will ensure your safety. Devices just can't tell you whether your Live, Neutral or Earth is wired up properly so plugging this in will give you extra peace of mind that your devices are safe to use.

we were able to check the polarity very easily, by the number of LED's which illuminated
We bought this for a specific purpose - a no-frills, inexpensive gadget for checking polarity on French Camp sites of the individual electricity supply on caravan pitches. By simply connecting the caravan to the camp electricity supply and plugging this devise into one of the sockets inside our caravan, we were able to check the polarity very easily, by the number of LED's which illuminated, and when necessary, use a separate adapter at the supply source to ensure the electricity was the correct polarity to the caravan, so ensuring all the equipment on board functioned. An absolute essential when caravanning in France....
