MAIWOM.2 NVMe SATA SSD to USB C Adapter, USB3.2 GEN2x1 10Gbps with UASP Trim, 4TB Capacity, Tool Free M.2 Drive Docking Station

I've use this to clone a Crucial P3 1TB from an old Toshiba NVMe and I've recently used it with an WD SN530 1TB on a Surface pro 7+. This adapter is so inexpensive but it works for everything I've needed it for. It's not going to give maximum speed for what some of these chips can do but it gives you more than enough speed and I believe I was getting about 300 MB per second during my heaviest cloning. Which was fine for my application.There's only one small issue I have with it and it has to do with the plastic enclosure. The plastic enclosure has a slot that you have to get your NVE chip through in order to make a connection to the actual port inside. You can see the port through a little window. The problem is this slot is exactly sized to the drive's width so when I placed the heat sink on the drive in order to place it in my Surface pro 7+ the heat sink made the drive slightly too wide and I could no longer insert it in the adapter. I had to use a whole other adapter to test out the final heatsinked drive. That was a minor irritation but could be a big issue if you're using any kind of heat sink. I didn't feel like trying to break the enclosure open or try to file the slot larger.They made it for bare drives only, please consider that when purchasing. I've also use it on devices that are low power and for the most part I didn't have a big problem but I'm unsure with some modern NVMe power requirements if you could use this with a USB-C hub or not. Likely not. Considering how inexpensive it was it was exactly what I needed so I'm thrilled with the purchase and will keep this for future uses. If you're looking for a full-time enclosure get something with the heat sink made of metal. This is for temporary use only but it does the job well and I experienced no disconnects or other oddities with the adapter. I recommend it for cloning and quick data recovery.

I used this to migrate my Windows install when I upgraded my SSD. It worked exactly as expected; no notes.

It does anything and everything you'd expect from a m.2 SSD reader. Even plugs into my iphone 15 pro. Easy to use, great value, SSD fits snug.

This docking station works as advertised. Very convenient if you deal with constantly changing NVMe sticks. But I can't get it to actually max out the promised 10 Gbps performance. The fastest stick I have right now is a Crucial P3 500 GB (purchased right here). This stick is advertised as supporting up to 3500 MB/s read but real-world performance in a OWC Envoy TB3 enclosure (capable of up to 2,800m MB/s) was about 1,500/1,300 r/w. However, the very best I was able to measure with this docking station was ~ 850 MB/s. And that just isn't quite good enough considering this is on a built-in TB4 port of a 14" MBP where you'd expect to see the full 10 Gbps of a 3.2 gen 2 10Gbps dock. But unfortunately it only came in at about 85% of that. It was very inexpensive though (got mine for $15 plus tax). Overall I'd say decent, but in the end, you do get what you paid for.

It's a good way to transfer the contents of an internal m.2 for a upgrade and I've used it as an external drive as well

I didn't read the part that says its not for use with SSD's with a heatsink because the heatsink does not allow it to fit through the slot. But, the device worked like a charm, after I broke open its case and disassembled it. Cloned my SSD with heatsink intact in about 20 minutes. I was also able to snap the devices cover back together after.

(How annoying is this for laptop users).6. YOUR NOT gonna get any greater then SATA Speed with this anyway. 300MB/s Tops. No matter what kind of M.2 you purchase.6.1 ...No matter what M.2 you purchase. Just a reminder, not a typo.7. Quality: Shamefully designed this way on Purpose to trick both user and amazon into thinking its a dual input device; Wasting both Customer and Franchise platform. They need off the platform.Quality. Its not just a way to get money for shipping and stocking; its amazon.And amazon needs to do something about his behavoir on their platform.

The title says it all. Shipped this to my daughter so she could retrieve data from dead laptop. She did the job herself and grateful to get her data!

My laptop came with a horribly slow hard drive. I needed to clone it out and replace it with a new NVME. I got this enclosure which seemed pretty good for the intended purpose. I used it with a WD850 NVME and transferred out all my data, installed it in my laptop and left the hard drive for backups. The laptop now boots up in seconds and it feels like a new one. Make sure the NVME doesn't have a heatsink, or it won't fit in the enclosure. Granted, it will get pretty hot during the transfer but it's for a one-off or perhaps ocasional use, so it shouldn't be a problem in the long run. I'm sure I will be using this a few more times with clients' laptops.

The media could not be loaded.  Right out of the box, I noticed something is loose inside the device. It makes a rattling noise when I hold it in my hands. Also it gets hot and performance drops with random disconnections. No performance problem with my other M.2 NVME usb c enclosure adapter.

This is a reasonably decent SSD adapter/dock that supports ONLY M.2 NVMe (i.e. no SATA) and ONLY M-key (i.e. NO B+M key). Furthermore, it does NOT support any NVMe's with a heat sink, built-in or otherwise, because it has rather narrow slot with little or no clearing for anything other than the NVMe itself. If your NVMe comes with a heat sink that cannot be removed, well, it's likely NOT gonna work with this adapter.≡ Noteyou should always try to keep SSDs (NVMe or SATA) running at below 50°C if you don't wanna lose data sooner than expected or if you care about performance hit because it will slow down drastically when it becomes too hot. Thermal pads are NOT provided with this but it should always be used to extend the lifespan AND obtain the best performance of SSDs.It's entirely made of plastic and nothing more than a plastic enclosure for the PCB and the electronics etc. Although it does feel cheap (and it is), it's for the most part reasonably well-constructed without visible defects and it does work just fine as expected without issues.There are no screws, rubber pegs, or installation of any sort in comparison to ordinary M.2 enclosures and the only thing needed is to insert the M.2 NVMe (from the front, not the top) and off you go. Note that the top window is only for, well, actually I'm not sure what it's for as it doesn't appear to serve any real purpose than allowing you to see the actual connector and perhaps for heat dissipation etc. It does have a power/activity LED on the top (pic 8).In short, it supports;* M.2 NVMe M keyIt does NOT support;* M.2 NVMe B+M key* M.2 SATA B+M key* M.2 SATA B key* M.2 PCIe AHCI M key (uncommon)≡ TestIn terms of performance, it's on par with most other M.2 NVMe SSD docks, enclosures, or adapters such as this, at close to the max speeds supported by the devices and/or the interfaces (realistic speeds NOT theoretical speeds as those are NEVER achievable, well, at least not at this point in time). It's rated at 10 Gbps aka USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 (or 1x2, depending upon the lanes used and the line encoding, which I can't easily determine so I'll just leave it at that).It's able to reach at least 1065.40 MB/s (8523.2 Gbps) so it's likely to be Gen 2x1 (single lane) since it's slightly more efficient and faster than Gen 1x2 (dual lane). However, I should also mention that for some reason one of the speed tests failed in Crystal Disk Mark the first time (pic 12) I ran it and I'm not sure what happened but the result was 0 for one of the tests. Subsequent tests had no problems though.Btw, it uses the JMicron JMS583 chip and it's supported in Crystal Disk Info along with all the SMART info properly being reported (pic 11). Interestingly though, it ONLY shows up as 'PCIe SSD...' device in Win11 without specific chip model.≡ ValueAll things considered, this is a reasonably decent M.2 NVMe/M-Key adapter/dock that's reasonably well-constructed (although it entirely plastic and feels cheap) and works as expected without issues based on its claim of 10 Gbps. It's reasonably priced at $20 for what it provides and its overall build quality (chap), usability, versatility, and performance. Your mileage might vary.

Love Maiwo products and supplier was good at sending original order quick but product has some draw backs despite being good quality. There seems to be no way to turn off auto shut off and when the computer needed to turn back on if cloning a drive the power stays off does not reboot and fails unless you watch is carefully and press the button as it reboots. My Mobile Maiwo M.2 SSD storage does a better job of cloning as has no power button but of course needs a screwdriver to open up. Also the USB cord is ridiculously short and even getting it attached to a laptop is hard to get it to sit flat on the table. For Desktop definitely needs an extension cord as will not reach anywhere without that. Desperately wanted a desktop capable M2SSD storage solution and waiting on the extension cord. For random access on laptop may good but for other uses needs attendance and extension. Great supplier good priiice but disappointing product.
