Functional grappling hook, works well
I really like the versatility of this grappling hook. It spins one way to open the four claws, and spins back down to tighten them in the open position. The four claws may be opened or closed as desired. It has a heavy hook with 100’ of black rope attached. The rope has a red shrink wrap around the knotted and looped end. This wrap can be slid loose, but it does add some utility when slid back in place. The knot is doing the work, the shrink wrap keeps it clean.I am able to toss this atop greater heights than I could reach otherwise. In my photo, i landed it securely atop a 12’ tall tree stump. The teeth on the claws really dug into the wood and provided a secure grip. Getting it off wasn’t difficult. This is an excellent took for emergencies and accessing difficult places. Good for climbing. Also makes an effective kayak anchor, equally good on the river bottom as the river bank. This is also an excellent tool for item retrieval from the water. The teeth will scratch up a painted finish, but it can be used to retrieve bikes from the lake. It can even be used to troll for large debris. The adjustable hooks allows for options when a four-hook setup may not be optimal. The rope is nothing special, feels like a synthetic fiber, but it is fully adequate for lifting my weight and whatever uses I may need this rope for, short of pulling out vehicles. It might be strong enough for pulling a dirtbike out of the mud, but I wouldn’t use it for a car.Machined well, the hook feels very solid. The claws do spin loose sometimes, but that is not a big deal. I would like a mechanism to lock it open beyond just tightening the threads, however.

Not perfect but pretty cool and does everything I need it to
I have no legitimate need for a grappling hook, I got this for fun. I can use it in useful ways, I just don't truly need it. I played enough tomb raider as a kid to have a dream in the back of my mind of owning a grappling hook and now I do. That alone makes it worthwhile. It's just such a uselessly ridiculous thing to be able to actually have. Fun to play around with too.The hook is well made and works fine. Easy to open and close and lock into place with a light screw of the bolt. I don't know how standard this is but it seems to work fine on this unit. The only issues are that it has very limited info that would let me trust it in a life or death weight bearing situation. I wouldn't use it for that anyway but it would be nice to know it's rated for that if you wanted to. Also the edges are pretty sharp. Not terrible and it won't cut you or anything but it's not a sign of fine craftsmanship.

Everyone should have a grappling hook...
Got this because who hasn't wanted a grappling hook at one point or another?? I do some tree climbing, boating and other activities from time to time, and this will be a nice addition to the kit.The hooks collapse down around the stem for storage and will lock both open and closed with the twisting retention ring. The hooks themselves are beefy and fairly sharp-edged. If you intend to use this hook for things like climbing trees, be aware that once the hooks are set and weighted they will likely not come out of a tree limb without some physical manipulation. Good angles and teeth on each hook make me feel confident about the grappling hook's ability to be stable in a multitude of conditions. The included rope is an 8mm line, and looks to be barrel knotted with taped ends. Be sure to load the rope prior to committing to it, to see if there is any slippage of the knots. All in all, good construction, and I look forward to getting it stuck in a tree somewhere!

Heavy duty
Besides being absolutely perfect for my utility belt, this hook is really heavy duty and can handle my weight with ease. I am well over 6' tall and 190lbs. This hook hand no problems holding me up. The metal is thick and well built. I have no problems trusting it.

Study and solid
The grappling hook loosens at the base with a spin opening and closing function. It's easy to use and locks into place securely both open and closed. This is a sturdy hook with a good design. The hook itself has some sharp tips to give it bite and purchase. The carabiner that attaches the grappling hook to the rope is ever so slightly not threaded perfectly, but it still works fine and has weight and heft to it, inspiring confidence. The rope is a nice quality and attached securely. It's attractive and packs up nicely.Overall I'm very pleased.

It's a grappling hook! Woohoo!!!
What kid didn't want a grappling hook when they were young? We all thought it would be cool to be a ninja or a commando and grapple over walls or onto roofs. Well this is the real deal, folks! You can make those dreams come true! This sucker is built like a tank! It is heavy though, so if you're going for a silent entry, you might look elsewhere. I'd also probably hit it with some matte black spray paint to keep yourself subdued in the night. The rope that comes with it is thick and strong, and would easily a small assault force to access wherever you have landed your grappling hook. Invasion approved!

Meh...
This is a seemingly heavy-duty grapple. I am not sure I trust this for much, however. The whole thing hinges on some very shallow, thin, threading in the shaft. It screws out to deploy, then screws back to lock. I am just not convinced that those threads are going to have a solid enough adhesion to hold much weight without stripping out. It is an interesting idea, but I don't think the execution is particularly safe. I'll use it for light stuff, but I'm not trusting my life to it unless there is literally no other option.

NOT A TOY
Hardcore, heavy-duty grappling hook. Be careful with this thing, it's fairly heavy and you could seriously hurt yourself or others while swinging it around. Also it's very cool.Rope is not the thickest Paracord I've seen but held my weight (185 lbs) well enough, as did the hooks. The hook latches on and does not let go. Great grappling hook.
