When Dave Allen passed away in March 2005, we lost a true comedy great. Sitting cross-legged on a high stool, whiskey in one hand, cigarette in the other, Dave Allen's exasperated commentaries on the absurdities of modern life struck a chord with millions of fans in Britain, Ireland and Australia for over four decades. He was a compelling storyteller -- able to spin shaggy dog stories out of the almost any subject, including the missing tip of his fourth finger of his left hand, for which he provided various unlikely explanations. But his gentle, laconic wit could also give way to ferocious attacks on the media, the state and, most famously, the Catholic Church. He was a unique talent -- a comic who could make his audiences laugh, cry, and be shocked, all in one. Here he is with his personal choice of sketches, gags and monologues. Review: The Best of Dave Allen - This DVD is just how I remember the Dave Allen Shows to be, it had lots of the jokes and it had plenty of the very funny sketches, Iwould highly recommend this DVD to anyone that was a fan of the late great Dave Allen, the only complaint that I have to make about this DVD is that there were not enough of the ghost stories, with the creaking door sounds and screams, that Mr Allen used to do on his shows. And I wish that it was longer. I really enjoyed the DVD. It arrived very promptly and I would certainly purchase from this seller again. Review: How comedy should be - Love Dave Allen! I thought I had this DVD already and a recent programme about him prompted me to take a look for it. Sadly, I think I lent it to someone and it was never returned but at this price, I was able to get another one. It came quickly, well wrapped for transit and I enjoyed this great man's humour over again. He was controversial for his time and although I do love most of today's comedians, in my opinion, this is the way comedy should be. If you love your comedy, or looking to expand your collection, this can't come highly recommended enough. A good buy, delivered quickly and in a professional manner. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Contributor | Dave Allen | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,163 Reviews | | Format | Digital Sound, Dolby, Full Screen, Mono, PAL | | Genre | comedy | | Language | English | | Manufacturer | 2entertain | | Number of discs | 1 | | Publication date | 20 Jun. 2005 | | Runtime | 1 hour and 33 minutes | ## Images ![The Best of Dave Allen [DVD] (2005) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91uUf1vojUL.jpg) ![The Best of Dave Allen [DVD] (2005) - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91udPVtutfL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Best of Dave Allen *by Y***E on 31 May 2013* This DVD is just how I remember the Dave Allen Shows to be, it had lots of the jokes and it had plenty of the very funny sketches, Iwould highly recommend this DVD to anyone that was a fan of the late great Dave Allen, the only complaint that I have to make about this DVD is that there were not enough of the ghost stories, with the creaking door sounds and screams, that Mr Allen used to do on his shows.
