Yes. Our cooktop protective mat is only for induction (magnetic) cooktops, which is heat resistant to 450°F/232°C. Direct contact with heating coils and flame would burn the mat. If your hob is applicable for any glass, ceramic or aluminium cookware, or the plate turns red when cooking, then it is not an induction cooktop. Is there a reason why my controls won't work through the mat

Hob control are touch sensitive to your skin ie finger. Having the mat over the controls will interfere with the touch capability. You could try other options: 1. A thinner mat. 2. Cutting the mat to suite the hob but leaving the controls out in the open for use. 3. Move the mat to suite the hob and gain ability to operate your controls by lifting up the mat. For me, it was option 2. Works a treat and still not burns/scratches to anything or anyone.

i have a vented hob with the vent in the middle. Can i cut this section out too?

I don't see why not. I cut a section of mine and there were some small white threads left on the cut edge, which I had to trim after . Hope this helps.

Why are the stickers with my black mat also black? I can't see them.
