Bio-Substrate, Galaxy Sand, 5lb (Wet)

I bought this substrate for a small plant tank and I love it. I wouldn’t recommend to add this to a tank that is set up and already has water in it, because it clouds bad and it did take about 24-36 hours to fully clear up, but it looks BEAUTIFUL. The substrate almost sparkles in the light, and I love the black color of it. I’ve only had plants in it for a few days, so I can’t really speak on how good the substrate truly is, but so far I’m loving it. It does come wet and you do not need to rinse it at all. Once you get past the cloudiness, it looks SO good!! Plus it should be great for plants!

This substrate is great! It does a good job helping to start your cycle in a new tank. The sand is relatively easy to clean with a siphon as long as you're careful. Make sure the sand does not go down your drains. The color looks great. I had to deep clean my tank (included trashing all my substrate) because my fish died of disease and I ended up buying this again because I liked it so much. One bag is a good amount for my 5.5 gallon.

I bought this awhile back Its perfect I have used it twice And now I am buying a second bag its a must. The clouding is next to nothing with this product unlike others I have used. I give this 10 stars

I’ve really enjoyed this substrate. I mixed it with my old substrate (which was a mix of sand + small gravel substance) when I upgraded tanks and I like the look of this one a lot. It’s more of a fine sand texture and a really beautiful sparkly black. My plants and ADFs seem to love it. It’s already a bit wet in the bag (they recommend not rinsing it) so it was easy to place into my tank that already had water in it. I love that it has beneficial bacteria to help the tank cycle too. It did make my water a bit cloudy for about ~2 days but this cleared up on its own with time.

This substrate is good, but not the best. If you’re looking for something cheap, then this substrate might be for you. I got one 5lb bag and it was the perfect amount for my 6.8 gallon tank. I recommend putting the substrate in first, and then add the water, because it gets super cloudy when you put the substrate in after the water. When doing water changes, pour the water in as slowly as possible so the substrate doesn’t get mixed up and cause the tank to be cloudy. It took around 8 hours for the cloudiness in my tank to settle down. Also, DONT WASH THE SUBSTRATE BEFORE ADDING IT TO THE TANK. If you wash it, you will kill all the beneficial bacteria that’s on it. I haven’t had to vacuum it yet, but I think the price on this substrate is a good deal.

Works great for any tank even with a small filter. Cloudiness settles practically overnight, easy to plant with. Unsure what these other reviews are saying, they must be using it wrong somehow or stirring up the substrate constantly. You shouldn’t rinse it before adding !!!

This is for folks who have established tanks* The bag states not to rinse; RINSE THAT MESS OUT! You'll have a giant mess to clean up for HOURS. The nutrients will produce a strong, dark, bubbly goop on the surface, fish eat ANYTHING floating on the surface; just surmise the after effects of guppies/angels/tetras seeing this yummy looking concoction of death should they consume too much. However, the dark sand does make everything pop once it's settled, make sure ya got your pumps ready!

Awesome! I originally ordered for my 2 black moors tank but unfortunately they passed from an ich treatment being too much for them before I could give them a fresh substrate after the treatment. But I used some in my grandmas beta tanks when I got her actual tanks for them. It has plants and they grow great in the substrate, there will be some fog when you first fill the tank up with water. But it goes away in a hour or so, if your cycling your tanks properly before u out fish in that won’t be a problem to you anyways! Smaller bags, will MAYBE fill a 10 gallon thinly. If you have anything bigger then that get more bags, I ordered 2 and I have a 30, have yet to put it in though so I’m unsure

It's sand so not much I can say about that really. Except that it's BLACK! I suppose I should have thought about that???? as it says 'galaxy'. But it also says 'Natural' so I assumed it would be a regular sand colour. I know it shows a little black on the bag, but again I didn't notice. I guess it's my fault, but it's really not clear

LOVED THIS! It was a welcome change to not have sand floating and clouding up my water for days! Nitrifying bacteria added to get your tank cycled faster, shrimp and plants seems to be enjoying as well! I will use this sand again, and highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, asthetic substrate.
