What if you do not have a CD Port on your computer?

If you use Windows, it will probably install the drivers automatically. If not you can search for AX88179 in google. It's the second result.

Tried on my Mac - installation failed?

It doesn’t work. You will need a thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor (for early MacBook Air, or whatever Apple specific port is available on your device for newer models)
