Lovely Little Instrument
I ordered this on a whim and am not disappointed with it. It is solidly made and very simple to use. However, having learned the piano I find it impossible to reorder my mind to play notes in a different order to the normal musical scale so I was finding it impossible to play.I decided to try to reorder the notes. I was able to pull them out easily with pliers as they are not attached to anything and are held in place purely by tension. I then reordered them to how they would play on a piano and reinserted them, pulling them through with pliers. Then I reinserted the metal rod which runs under the notes and finally tuned them from my piano.Obviously, this now means the notes run on a single diagonal so playing it with your thumbs is not as simple as before, however, for me it was a matter of not being able to play it at all in its original condition. There is at least a full tone to work with when tuning so it should also be possible to change the key by retuning the appropriate notes to fit with whatever key you want to change the instrument to. I have changed mine to F major, so adjusted all the B keys to B flat. All in all, a very attractive and versatile little musical instrument.

Great value for money
For the price my expectations were middling but I was really pleased when the kalimba arrived. The wooden panels are thin enough for it to resonate pretty well and all the keys chime clearly except for the top two notes. The visual appearance is good with a suitably handmade feel about it and the grain and carved areas look attractive. The keys on mine have the note names printed neatly on them although I'd prefer them not to have been. I'm sure they'll come off with a dab of isopropyl alcohol or disappear with a light rub of some 2000 grit paper if I wish. A really serious kalimba player would I'm sure get a better instrument by spending a lot more money. However, I'd do that in a specialist shop where I could handle the instrument rather than unseen online. For other users I think this kalimba would be more than adequate. Perfect if you're learning, noodling, relaxing or, like me, recording samples for a musical project.

Best budget Kalimba that not as a toy.
what important for a budget Kalimba is to hold the correct tunes and no buzz when play, which this Donner 17 keys Kalimba achieved. correct tunes in keys are so important for proper music learning.Good build quality with Mahogany wood body, a common type of wood that often used as guitar body for warm vibration sound.Best first Kamliba for serious learner , my daughter's 3rd kamliba compare with the other 2 much expensive one, no complains at all.

Great Musical Instrument
Bought this for my 9 year old daughter. She absolutely loves it and has already learned a number of tunes. It is well made and produces a very pleasing sound.

👍
Good inexpensive kalimba for beginners.Comes with a soft fabric pouch so I recommend getting a hard case separately if you intend to travel with it.Also includes a metal tuner, stickers for the keys and a pair of thumb picks which I didn't need. The thumb picks will not fit large thumbs. The engraved music notes and numbers on the keys are very useful and I didn't need to paste on the stickers for reference. If you're experienced in playing musical instruments and can play by ear rather than depending heavily on music score sheets, you will be able to learn to play the kalimba even more easily. The kalimba is fun and relaxing for everyone, including those who don't play other musical instruments, since it is barely capable of making any bad sounds. Unlike wind instruments, this instrument can be shared as well.

Happy!
I love it! It’s light and go with you anywhere, loud enough too. Maybe tuning isn’t that easy but for a beginner like me it does the trick for now. Very happy, I will buy more of this instrument with different brands. Such a great happy instrument, I wish I knew about it before.

Cumple perfectamente
Puede que no sea la más bonita, pero viene con todo incluido: Martillo para afinar y funda y pegatinas para las notas.El sonido es bastante limpio y potente para el tamaño del instrumento.

Kalimbas are awesome and this one makes beautiful tones
The media could not be loaded. I’ve never played kalimba before but if you’re wondering if they’re something to try, try it! I was kind of baffled because they have different types in different keys and with different numbers of tones. Without experience with a kalimba myself, I had to go with online info and guesses from other music I’ve played. This kalimba is in the note of ‘c’ and most music written for kalimba seems to be written in c for either 8 or 17 note kalimbas. The style of playing is different from anything else I’ve played, because the notes alternate from one hand to the other. So, instead of going up in ascending order, the have c in the centre and then d is played by my left hand and e by my right hand! There is a simple tablature that is also available where the notes are numbered instead of lettered. The combination means that you can play music just written for kalimba or basic music for other instruments. You can also do some basic chords by playing two tones at once and they sound really nice. There is a bit of a knack to playing them so they sound right but it’s about the hardest thing about playing. Some people say you don’t need sheet music or tab at all and that people should be able to pick out songs, I think that’s asking a bit much. It is fun to try, but it’s time consuming and very much a challenge and a learning curve that not everyone has an ear for. The sense of accomplishment that playing a song from sheet music or tablature is pretty awesome and you get a few songs with this, but pick up a music book when you buy this!I can’t wait for my music book to come in, I’ve learned all the ones that it came with and wished someone had suggested ordering a music book for kalimba because i didn’t really realize they had them 😁Some other things I saw for questions when I was doing my own homework, you can have reasonable fingernails and play the kalimba. It might chip a manicure, I’m not sure about that or fake nails, but you don’t need to cut your nails right down like with the guitar. It comes with a tuning hammer and you may need to do some tuning, mine came tuned and maintains its tuning. That’s something I like with the Donnor instruments, they seem to keep their tuning. My ukulele instructor has commented on how good my uke keeps it’s tuning as well. She actually said, ‘hold onto that uke, it’s a keeper’I don’t know if all kalimbas keep their tuning so well.I do use the keys exceeding the 8 keys, I heard the 17 keys wasn’t traditional to Africa, if you want traditional you should look for 12 or 8, but I really like the 17 and how much range it gives me! I can play ALL the music!!

The media could not be loaded. Altamente recomendable.
