my kids loved this and it is durable.

These are really nice quality toys. My 8 year old son has battles with his toys that get a little rough. Many of his other figurines have missing heads, limbs, etc. Months later and these dragons are still all in one piece. I have bought a few more since they seem to be the only characters that he can battle and not break.

This review is for the SCHLEICH Eldrador Creatures Magma Lizard. I received a free taxable sample of toy figurine to review in my search for fun pretend play toys for kids.The toy lizard arrived in branded and decorated open-display packaging featuring a river of lava in the background. The lizard was secured with wiring twisted around each of its four limbs and can be gifted as is within a gift bag and covered with tissue paper.The magma lizard figurine is built out of different types of durable plastic, weighs a solid 168 grams, and measures approximately 7" x 3" x 3". There is an incredible level of detail for this figurine which includes all-around texture and muscular detail, even on the bottoms of the feet and underbelly. The paint job similarly detailed and spot-on with a great range of colors - if the magma lizard existed in real life, I would imagine it would look pretty much like this figurine. According to one of the younger testers, the translucent lava ridges on the back are one of the coolest details with its mostly red-colored flames touched with a tinge of orange.Overall, the younger testers enjoyed playing with the magma lizard and it was easy for them to buy into the general premise of the Eldrador Creatures play world centered around conflict among its lava, ice, stone, and jungle creatures. Interestingly enough, the only part of this figurine that moves is its mouth, which also has great detail including the yellow textured tongue, the many sharp teeth, and the shaded roof of the mouth. Surprisingly, the lack of articulation was not really a concern for the testers as it didn't get in the way of their pretend play, some of which involved the magma lizard stomping around setting things on fire. From a personal standpoint, I would have liked for the magma lizard's backstory to have been included on the back of the packaging or at least more readily available than as part of the product description on the official website - but that's more of a personal preference than anything the testers voiced or noticed.All in all, this lizard figurine is solidly constructed and has a great weight and feel as well as incredible detail and a fantastic paint job. I recommend this as a good option for elementary school pretend play, especially if your child is into fantasy worlds and reptiles.

These little guys are always high quality, but they can be relatively expensive for a stationary figure. I have five or six different ones at this point, and every few months, I add one of the collection. They'd make great gifts, but the packaging isn't very good for display. They're better if you plan to open them up and put them somewhere where you can appreciate them on a daily basis. I really like the fantasy ones more than the regular animals. A great gift for anyone who enjoys fantasy or plays / played games like Dungeons & Dragons.
