This is excellent. Easy to setup, great interface. It just works. I use it as a Nas when I’m home, and travel router when I travel. Update, this thing keeps restarting every 10-15 minutes. It’s frustrating now.

I used this device briefly as my main router as my ISP hadn't yet shipped their own brand router before my internet was upgraded to fibre. I now use it as a reliable access point to extend the range of my network for 4k streaming, light gaming, and general web browsing. Setting this thing up was really simple. I'm pretty knowledgeable with tech, but I don't think I'd have much trouble if I had less experience. To use this with fibre to the property connections, you have to change the router settings to PPPoE and use login details specific to your ISP. (Search for 'PPPoE login BT/Sky/Plusnet/EE...). The web interface is remarkably simple and modern so poses no problems! Once my ISP router arrived, I switched this over to access point mode to reach some dead spots in my flat. Again, really simple to do with one button in the web client. Devices connect seamlessly and quickly. This router has been incredibly reliable, being consistent on delivering 500Mbps speeds. The range is good, but no improvement over the one I have from Plusnet. If you're looking to buy this to extend the range of your WiFi, you won't see much difference if you have anything from the past few years. One minor complaint is the shiny black plastic on top which is a nightmare for dust and scratches. This is, however, a great value for money buy for those looking for an access point, or upgrading anything that caps out at 100Mbps!

This item works flawlessly and is easy to configure with the tether app. I have tested it with my phone linked to it and as a wireless extender with Surfshark VPN running on it. It just works. I don't think it deserves a 5 star rating though as the speed tops out at 300 Mbps, even extending my 900 Mbps network, which seems odd with WiFi 6. My home mesh network is WiFi 7.

Impressed so far. The TP-Link was easy to set up and configure using the Tether app. I connected my iPhone via the USB cable supplied and now have fast WiFi in my camper van. The iPhone tethering seems to time out after a period of inactivity but this is the iPhone and carrier, nothing to do with the TP-Link. Logging into the configuration page on the router there are many advanced options and some optional extra services one can subscribe to. I haven't tested the ethernet but have no reason to think that it would not be fast. One slightly curious thing is that the logs show various activity in December 2025 - which is possibly when the device was first configured at the factory. Finally, when I read the description on Amazon there was mention of the "SLATE" which is the model name of another company's router, which looks very similar. TP-Link assured me that this device is NOT the same machine re-badged, and other reviews do suggest that the firmware is TP-LINK's and not open source like the other company. If it had a SIM card slot and 5G capability it would be perfect

I have suffered with WiFi issues since I recently moved into a rented flat. I went with NOW Broadband as my partner was with them living in the same area and had no issues with them. First few days were great with no issues then started to have connection dropouts, losing a bar of WiFi signal leaving the living room where the hub was etc. Phoned NOW 3 times, replaced the hub, sent an engineer out who supposedly replaced a contactor in the box outside, gave me money off my bill to buy a booster, nothing worked. I found this item as it had great reviews. I thought why not. I thought this replaced my NOW hub but it doesn’t. You keep your internet set up the way it is and this item is connected to your hub via an ethernet cable. You then connect your devices to this router and you should get all green lights. Initially I had green lights but no internet connection. I panicked thinking it wasn’t going to work with my WiFi. However on the instructions there is details of a website to troubleshoot and eventually it done a firmware upgrade on my phone for the router which took a few minutes. This is all easy to do so do not worry if you’re not tech minded, either am I. After the firmware upgraded, everything was sorted. I had internet. The next thing was to test if it had improved my speed. My NOW hub was situated in the living room and when lying in bed I would only ever get 2 bars of WiFi on my iPhone and videos would rarely load. After I was connected to the TP router I went through and it did drop to 2 bars but then straight away went back up to 3. I done 2 speed tests (see photo above). The bottom one is connected to the TP router and the top one is connected to the NOW hub. It’s almost double the speed. That’s another thing, because you need both your normal broadband and this router set up, you can just switch between the 2 if you want too. I have the Tether app which again it tells how to install in the instructions and I can now control my devices etc. It’s really easy to use and you can customise your settings to your preference. To conclude I was initially skeptical that this would work with NOW but it did and has improved my connection massively. If you’re thinking about it, just do it. Hope this helps anyone who was confused like I was before buying.

Bought for the VPN built in and to keep all my devices connecting to one travel hotspot network, using hotel wifi with the router acting as an access point. What I’ve found is it tends to work fine when connected to a fixed network, but as soon as I move to a different hotel or office and try to change the host network I’m accessing through it that’s when the connection issues start, taking about half an hour to reconnect and reconfigure through the Tether app. USB C powered with a 5V3A connection means you can use it on the move in the car or with a decent power bank, and could make it a lower powered option for home wifi or in a power cut/renovation situation, either using a USB dongle modem or phone connection.

Bargain basement performance . I have an ASUS gaming router and this one I just slung at the back of the house so I could get a signal when Im in my workshop. It constantly if faster than my ASUS and completely stable..never glitches..had it two years now and its still as fast as day one. TP link make some nice stuff for reasonable money. My ASUS was 3x the price and just varies so much in speed I cant rely on it..one day is 350mbps next is 80 mbps..the TP link keeps constant at around 330 . I have other TP link kit bought after being impressed with this and that's too performs very well

I had a Hootoo Tripmate but they stopped supporting the app which was required to configure it, and it was slow(er) 802.11n. I considered buying a tplink or GL.iNet wifi 6 router, but carrying another PD QC power adapter was a deal breaker. There's USB power outlets 'everywhere', like hotel TVs+lamps, battery banks, laptops, etc. The fact that the TP-Link TL-WR902AC could run from 5v 500ma USB (no ext drive) was the clincher. Being 25% smaller and 75% lighter than my old Hootoo made it a slam dunk purchase. The fact that it fits in my travel electronics accessory bag speaks volumes. I intend on using the TP-Link travel router primarily in hotspot mode to share one hotel captive registration with multiple devices to avoid ridiculous charges. I might stream to a Roku or Fire Stick, work from my laptop, and read email or browse the internet with one or two phones. Initial testing indicates that the router delivers about ~110Mbs down and ~20Mbps up, whether you use a 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz channel. When I tested two simultaneous downloads, it didn't balance well. One connection got most of the bandwidth. I didn't spend the time to investigate QOS settings (yet). Regardless, hotels/public wifi rarely offers more than 20Mbps, so bandwidth speeds over that is a don't care. I dinged a star because tplink didn't include a case, not even a cardstock sleeve... and for the funky tplinkwifi.net configuration procedure. 1 month update: Finally got to try it with a hotel captive portal... very interesting experience, going through "Quick Setup"... very non intuitive but only took about 5min of trial and error. I was able to connect 2 phones, a laptop, and my Amazon fire stick simultaneously. And I charged two phones and powered the router with one 3x USB power adapter. All in all a successful 1st run. 2Y Update (Changed to 5*) Things have changed a lot in the last 12 years since I purchased and carried my first HooToo travel router. Free hotel wifi with enough bandwidth to support streaming is more the norm vs charging per device for slow wifi. Cell service is cheaper and phones now support wifi and cell network hotspotting. Streaming services (eg Netflix) support downloaded content for viewing offline. The need to carry a laptop for work, in addition for downtime or holiday entertainment has become less and less, replaced with casting to a hotel Google TV, or streaming to a Fire/Roku Stick. In rare cases, hotels tried to force Pay-Per-View on guests by providing closed TVs without casting or hdmi ports, but Eff that; then I'd resort to peering at my tiny phone screen and torching the hotel with a bad review. --- PUNCH LINE --- For those who have a substantial media library, the TL-WR902AC, serves as a very good, affordable, media streaming server when used with a ginormous USB Flash Drive (eg SSK 2TB USB SSD Flash Drive). However, there are quirks-constraints to heed. 1. The TL-WR902AC is power spec'd at 5V/2A (10W). 2. The USB-A port is spec'd at 5V/1A (5W), which also implies the router component may consume up to 5W. 3a. A *mechanical* usb external 2.5" HDD will typically draw 0.35-0.45A when reading/writing, but may draw *1.2A* at spin-up. And continuously draw ~0.3A to keep the disk spinning. 3b. A USB flash drive (eg SSK 2TB USB Flash Drive SSD ) may draw 0.8A (typical)-1A (peak). I can stream 2x 480p (DVD resolution) videos simultaneously. 4. Underpowering a connected USB drive runs the risk of corrupting the data or damaging the drive. 5. NOTE(!!): The TL-WR902AC appears to have a folder indexing limitation ~120 files (not surprising since 2^(8-1)=128). If you have a large media library (eg 300 files), the workaround is to split files across subfolders like 0-H, I-Q, R-Z. Other: A. Confirm the lowest common denominator codec for your client devices. My 'older' Roku 4K stick doesn't support MKV video containers or AV1, so I had to transcode my videos to MP4, h.265 (using ffmpeg and handbrake). B. FAT32 doesn't support >4GB files C. Android Phones don't natively support NTFS The point is, using a TL-WR902AC & 'SSK 2TB USB Flash Drive SSD' to serve up mp4 h.265 videos to either a VLC/Amazon Fire Stick 4K or Roku Media Player/Roku 4K Stick works well. Reduce the risk of damaging the drive by using the TL-WR902AC solely as a media server reading data from the USB drive; write your media directly with a PC.

Very disappointed with TP Link quality. You can go thru to change the password but you cannot log into the router. Changing settings for the router is a complete pain and take hours. I bought this because I thought this will be like other TP Link products I bought and will be easy to set up. Instead it is just a useless box.

The product is made in quality material and very small in size. It works as it claims. One thing I noticed that if I use my own Cat 5e Ethernet cable, it will not connect. I have to use the Cat 5e Ethernet cable provided. I didn't try more Ethernet cables. Also the micro USB cable is a bit too short, which is not a big problem, as every body has a lots of them in stock I guess.
