Q: I just opened these for my dog and they smell horrendous! Are they supposed to smell like a dead rat or did I maybe receive a bad bottle?

Yes, these chews smell like something died. It's the different ingredients they use which causes the smell. My dog loves them!!

That is a bit confusing but the 48000 could be the total. Honestly our Dog didn't like the taste. We went back to the Dasuquin which he really enjoys.
