Not perfect, but good optics in a versatile package
The 6.5x magnification is ideal for young and/or beginning users, as it provides a wide field of view and makes it easier to find things, as well as minimizing shake. 32mm objectives keep the weight and size down while still letting in plenty of light. You can adjust interpupillary distance and eye relief quite a bit, fitting a wide range of people of different ages. The optics are quite good and they are waterproof and nitrogen sealed as well (a necessity for anyone who plans to use them out in the elements). However, there are some design flaws: Given that these are geared towards younger users, it is disappointing that the focus wheel is so stiff--I found it hard to turn without using 2 fingers--and I have pretty strong hands. The eyepiece covers are too loose, and pop out of place a bit too easily. Finally, the provided strap is absolute rubbish--it feels rough-edged and stiff on the neck--very uncomfortable.I had the opportunity to compare these head-to-head with the Kowa 6x30 YF II and Vortex Bantam HD 6.5x32 models. The Oberwerks stacked up very favorably in the optics and adjustability departments, and I found them much easier to see through than the Vortex Bantams, but Kowa has really kept their target audience in mind, and made the 6x30 YF II very easy to focus for youngsters. The Kowas are more expensive, but will be less frustrating to use (and they have an actually comfortable strap). If budget is a priority, these Oberwerk 6.5x32's are decent, but I think I will be returning them in favor of the more refined Kowa 6x30 YF II model.
