A Whole Lotta Broly
He's finally here! The biggest, meanest bad guy from the Dragonball Z universe has arrived in much deserved remastered form. This is the Broly triple feature!Over this disc is one fantastic DBZ epic movie and a satisfactory sequel and an awful second sequel. The main feature of this set is most definetly the first one;Movie 8: Broly : The legendary Super SaiyanDuring a rare day off that the Z fighters are enjoying, one of the last surviving Saiyans, Paragus comes to Earth and invites the gang to check out his new 'planet vegeta' Together, the gang travel to the new planet and meet Paragus' son, Broly, who just so happens to be a homicidal maniac who hates Goku with a passion. Broly, who was born with a phenomenal power level of 10,000 was driven crazy by baby Goku's cries as he lied in the saiyan pod next to him. So soon after their introduction, Broly begins taking out the Z fighters one by one until only a few are left to stand against him...and to top things off, there's a huge comet headed for planet Vegeta. These are some tough times for our heroes, but it makes for some top notch action from one of the greatest anime series' ever made. This movie is not only the best movie in this set, it is probably the best Dragon ball movie ever made (including the horrific live action mess). Lasting longer than other DBZ movies, this first Broly film is a true action epic. The action is superbly animated and gives the movie a collosal and destructive feel. If there is one DBZ movie to see, this is it.Movie 10: Broly : Second ComingWhen Goten, Trunks and Videl go on a trip to colect the dragon balls, they get the shock of their lives when the assumed to be deceased Broly comes back with a vengeance. Only this time, Goku's not around to save the day. After hearing the cries of Goten (after Videl hits him) Broly is sent into another hateful rage and starts tearing the place up one again. Even though this movie is not as good as its' predecessor it is still quite entertaining. The pairing up of Goten and Trunks is as fun as always as this loveable duo provide some great comic relief. While not as extravagent and OTT as the first movie, this one is still not bad.Movie 11: Bio BrolyNow this is when it goes sharply downhill. The weakest film of the set and probably the worst one so far. A crazy scientist has discovered DNA traces of Broly and has therefore created a powered up Bio version of him, which he intends to control and use to take over the world. Once again, this movie stars the hyperactive youths Goten and Trunks (probably by popular demand) and as usual, they find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time with a P'd off supercharged, Super Saiyan after them. While the action is of the usual high quality, the story did not sustain my interest as much as it did in the previous movies. Furthermore, the crazy scientist I mentioned before is really annoying as he is a stereotypical bad guy cliche. The best thing about these movies is the option to watch with several different language and soundtracks. These are1.English language with Japanese music2.American broadcast dub3.Original Japanese versionThese options give us the opportunity to enjoy these movies in 3 different ways. The American broadcast version is my favourite as it contains an awesome rock and heavy metal soundtrack which includes music from the band Disturbed, along with a number of Japanese bands.Once again, this movie pack contains very few special features; just the usual trailers and DVD credits (is that actually a special feature?)If you are just a casual viewer of DBZ, then the movies may not apply to you as they do not follow the plot of the series in any way. However, if you're a die hard DBZ fan, then this set is essential, purely for the the first Broly movie which is awesome and in order to continue your collection. The next movie collection will complete the collection, so until then, enjoy this triple dose of DBZ action.
