Probably the best book I've ever read.
Oh wow, what a wild ride. I actually think this is my favourite book that I’ve ever read. If I could give it 6 stars I would.“A dragon without its rider is a tragedy. A rider without their dragon is dead.”Step into the cutthroat world of dragon riders at Basgiath War College. Meet Violet Sorrengail, destined for the Scribe Quadrant, but thrown into the race to become an elite dragon rider by her tough-as-nails mother. With her fragile physique, bonding with dragons seems impossible, and the odds stack against her. As deadly secrets and ruthless competitors lurk, Violet must rely on her wits to survive. Amidst a war-torn kingdom and failing defenses, every day brings new challenges, alliances, and betrayals. At Basgiath War College, the path to victory is treacherous, and the only options are to graduate or die. When I tell you this is the best, not only fantasy, but the best book I have ever read I am not exaggerating.Firstly, I was absolutely h o o k e d within the first 20 pages. That has never happened for me in a book before 😭 I fell in love with Violet almost instantly. She's the tiny but mighty FMC who, even though she has a disability, takes and runs with literally anything that is thrown at her. We enter the world following Violet as she enrolls in Basgiath and takes on her first challenge almost instantly. We're thrown into the world, but it doesn't seem confusing. Everything is explained and I didn't feel lost at all when I was reading this.“But I will not run. I wouldn't be standing here if I'd quit every time something seemed impossible to overcome. I will not die today.”Violet is amazing, she's sassy, caring, charming and a complete and utter queen. She takes no bs, but also is incredibly caring, kind and compassionate, even when other characters didn't deserve it. Xaden is also a complete highlight. He's your typical dark and brooding MMC, but what lies beyond that is such a deep and complex character. I would follow him into battle. The romance in this book is absolutely sizzling. I was melting everytime their eyes met from across the room 😩 Lord give me strength because I was NOT prepared for *those* scenes 🥵🥵But the most shocking part for me, was how much I absolutely fell in love with the Dragons. Tairn is a whole mood. The dialogue with the dragons was some of the best dialogue I've ever read and had me giddy and giggling like a child the whole time.“You're making us look bad. Stop it.”This book may only be around 500 pages but EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE of this book was full of action, information and funnies. There was absolutely no filler in this book at all. I was completely entranced. The last sentence absolutely BROKE me. Rebecca, how could you do this? How can you leave us like that?! I can't believe we have to wait until November to find out what happens next. I did not see that coming - AT ALL.Overall, were the tropes in this book original? No. But it was so incredibly enjoyable and written so well that it's now one of my (if not the top) all time favourite books. I'm already NEEDING the next book.

A real turner, finished it in two days
So, I would say this book isn't for everyone out their. it's first person perspective which isn't my favourite HOWEVER saying that I was absolutely sucked in from the first chapter. I couldn't put the book down, there's always something happening, always something going on which make's not reading the next chapter so hard. there's a few twists and turns that are sort of predictable I will say but the story and characters are interesting enough that you don't mind.I absolutely love the dragon's and that would be my only gripe with the book that we don't get enough of them. There's a charter death that had me sobbing as I read it, it was heartbreaking to read but that for me just showed how much that charter came to mean to the other's in this story and just how likeable they were.I would say this was an easy read, it's not overly complicated and it's a pretty good none brainer book. it's fun, spicy and interesting. it's an easy fantasy/romance story that dosent require much brain power to get thru.the only reason it took me two days to read was because sadly sleep is a thing.

”We can live as cowards or die as riders.”
So you all were not kidding when you said this would be my new obsession. If infinite stars were an option, this book deserves it all. No because I don’t even know what day or time it is and yet here I am trying to string together words that will somehow makes sense and do this masterpiece justice. There are some stories you read and enjoy but every so often you come across one that just obliterates everything and takes over your entire being within a few pages and becomes your world and personality. Well, this is the one."Tell me what you're thinking?""I was thinking you are exactly as I predicted the first time you took me in my room.""Oh yeah? And what was that?""A very dangerous addiction."What Rebecca has created is something that not only exceeded everything yet at the same time made me feel as if I was returning home. Growing up with books like The Divergent or The Hunger Games I always yearned for more reads like this, and you guessed it, I found my new religion. The world not only captivated me but dragged me in so deep I was living, breathing, and watching the action unfold and spread amongst these pages. The characters truly all felt larger than life itself. This is still one I think about daily even though it has been a few weeks since I turned the last page. What you can expect to find• High fantasy romance• Underdog FMC/Broody morally grey MMC• Enemies to lovers forbidden romance• Academia War College setting• DRAGONS• Slow burn with delicious spice pay off• Hand to hand combat• Chronic illness rep• Unique magic system“I’m not going to die today.”Violet “Violence” Sorrengail aka my newest ride or die gal. I have never experienced this much love towards a FMC before. She is one tough, resilient, badass strong, compassionate, strong soul that has this vulnerability to her that just makes her relatable, real, and raw. Her bravery and the lengths in which she goes to protect those she cares and loves has brought tears to my eyes. I could spend my days being inside her head. Her heart is her biggest gift.”Here’s the thing, Sorrengail. Hope is a fickle, dangerous thing. It steals your focus and aims it toward the possibilities instead of keeping it where it belongs—on the probabilities.””I’m not sweet. Please don’t mistake any part of me for soft or kind. That will only get you hurt, and whatever you do…” “Don’t fall for me."Xaden oh the way this man has ruined me for everyone else... Seriously not only has he overtaken my thoughts and have been the star of a few recurring dreams but just his whole being is my new addiction. He is an enigma. Even though we weren’t in his head, just the glimpses we got had me weak in the knees. I loved the tension between the two. If anything, it made my angst loving heart soar. He has the whole touch her and d!e attitude without actually coddling Vi and how he believes in her and pushes her to be her strongest self was everything. He was not smothering yet he was still folding over at the sight of her was what my soul needed. His past is not easy but once we got to see him treacle in through her eyes, it was honestly something beautiful. He is delicious and divine. Plus, that mouth on him… *chefs kiss*“Am I affecting your schedule, Violence?” There’s a definite smirk on those lips. “I just need to know what my chances are here.” My hands curl into fists. The ass has the nerve to smile.“That’s the oddest way I’ve ever been hit on—”“Not my chances with you…!”I could read about these two and their delicious chemistry forever.”"Oh, gods.""Which one are you calling out for? Because it's just you and me in this room, Vi, and I don't share."”Come on, let’s get you to bed.” I lean in and kiss the scar on his eyebrow. “It will be tomorrow when you wake up.” “I don’t deserve you.” His arm curls around my hips and he tugs me closer. “But I’m going to keep you all the same.”The found family healed parts of me that I didn’t even think needed it. Liam, Rhiannon, Imogen, Garrick. I love them so much. They really made me feel like I was part of their chosen clan. But I swear if we don’t get justice for a certain character I will riot.Of course I cannot end this without giving a shout out to one of the main factors of what made this book so unique; Tairn and Andarna. These two have been such a breath of fresh air. Their interactions and acceptance of Violet was incredible."A dragon without it’s rider is a tragedy. A rider without their dragon is dead.”Truly thank you, Rebecca, for creating the perfect escapism and my new lifeline. I can speak with all the certainty that this is a world I will be returning to time and time again. The hangover I am still experiencing from this is strong!
