Does the job well
Looked at some of the cheaper readers but was recommended this one for the quality and features and glad we got it. Very good tough build quality which is what you need for this kind of thing, its bound to be knocked out your hand regularly buy bounding cats or dogs.Love the software feature, when we charge it on the PC, it downloads a list of missing and stolen pets and tells you if you scan one of them.

An excellent product
I purchased - microchips for this years crop of foals and they included a thermo chip that takes the temp on scanning - this scanner is easy to use and very easy to read - great product

A must for all stay cats
I have a number of cats that are either left on my doorstep in boxes or just turn up knowing that my home is a safe haven. In purchasing this product I have been able to scan for chips and though only one was returned to its owner it did what was expected of it. It is easy to use and in a design that has a good grip. It is a must for anyone who loves animals.

Very good, I'm impressed.
It's smaller than I thought, it's light and portable. The internal battery was partially charged when I received it, so I was able to test it right away. Very quick scan and recognition of the microchip, about 1 sec. It beeps when it reads the code, if it doesn't find any chip then it shuts down after approx 30 sec.One downside is the display, a bit too small and not backlit.Excellent value for price, excellent service from Amazon, as always.

Scanner works fine
Using this for scanning a litter of very similar black kittens, so I know to match them to the right documents when they get adopted. Works fine.

Wrong colour but doesn't affect use
I ordered the blue scanner and received black. Obviously it'll still do the job it's meant to, just a bit disappointed that I didn't get what I ordered. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but have used this brand in the past and it does the trick. Easy to use and comfortable to hold. I'm a volunteer for an organization which responds to calls for scanning found cats (sometimes we get dogs to scan as well) and try to reunite the pets with their owners. This will definitely get lots of use.

Alright. Nothing fancy
These chip scanners are cheap and cheerful. They do the job but don't feel like they're going to stand the test of time and I can see us replacing them. The power button takes a lot of pressure to turn it on and it's in a rubbish position. The companion software feels very 20th century and I can't see us ever using it (crashed twice on my windows 10 workstation)The battery charge seems good, and the display is clear and readable, but I can't help but think cheap plastics and a disproportionate amount of force to press the button are going to lead to some early deaths. An IP rated case (for more money obviously) would be nice too.**UPDATE** A few months in, and the two of these we purchased are not holding anywhere near as much charge as when we originally purchased them - the idea for us was so they can fit it our kit bag for days or weeks until needed. The reality is that we're having to keep them on charge in the glove box. I'd rather have replaceable batteries than a rubbish quality internal battery.
