is it a night cream

I would personally consider it a "day cream" given that it contains no SPF. G.M. Collin has many products for both day and night, although I admit I am not familiar with them all. The best non-solicited advice I can give, though, is to be an avid label reader. I like this product a lot, but I am always cognizant of where I will be going before using any type of facial product. For example, if you will be in the sun (at all...even for 10 minutes), I highly recommend a day cream with a SPF of 15 or higher, and never make the assumption that it's not a big deal. We all (or we should) apply SPF for a day at the pool or beach, but when it comes to running errands around town, somehow our skin doesn't always take priority. If we have children...even more important. I have two friends (within months of my age, which is 43), who both have skin which "looks" about 20 years older than it actually is. FAR more importantly, one of them recently had to have a dermatologist remove a cancerous melanoma removed from her neck. If that had gone untreated who knows what would have happened. Isn't it said that skin cancer is the "silent killer?" I'm sorry to get off topic, but now that it's June and we're all planning to be outdoors more, I have but one piece of advice: read labels, always apply sunscreen (when using it with makeup, you could use G.M. Collin's Hydramucine serum first, and then apply a lightweight SPF foundation). One that is particularly nice, I think, is Laura Mercier's "Lightweight Tinted Moisturizer." This gives you two lines of defense: you'll give your skin the nutrients and emollients it needs (don't forget your neck, and if you're wearing something low-cut, use it wherever the sun will shine on your skin), and you'll have a beautiful "glow." What is the difference between this "optimal" cream and the regular hydramucine cream?

The Optimal Cream is much richer than the regular hydramucine Cream.  They are both described as being for normal to dry skin.
