The blue seat-cover on my old 1987 XL600R is in great shape and looks terrific. But the seat-foam underneath is worn-out, very stiff, and starts making me sore after about 45 minutes of road riding. After about 3-4 hours it becomes absolutely unbearable and I MUST IMMEDIATELY STOP RIDING for the day. So I decided to give this a try as an affordable quick-fix. And it works...mostly. For shorter rides (1-2 hours around town) I still get sore when I'm not wearing my padded MX shorts (A.R.C. Padded Riding Shorts, Rocky Mountian ATV). But this product takes the edge off and it never starts to become unbearable. I just shift around on my seat and that gets me through. I even went for a previously unthinkable ride recently. Portland to Mt. Hood to Hood River and back with lots of exploration and off-road play along the way. 10 hours in the saddle and I made it! A LOT of uncomfortable shifting around as the day wore-on, but while I got quite sore, it never became too much to bear (though it did come very close). I count it a success as guy who doesn't have a wad of money to burn for a hand-crafted custom seat foam replacement on such an old bike. Oh, and I also think it looks pretty good installed. I removed the seat for mounting, then used safety-pins to hold the straps tight. Safety pins are a must. On my bike the rear-most strap was bit difficult because the way the fender and seat interact. Just know that it won't fit perfectly without a bit of tinkering, but it does fit without modification. So like anything else, don't do it when you are pressed for time. If you want a good cover without spending loads of cash, then I highly recommend this cover. It should fit any motorcycle with a dirt-type dished seat. It's a big help. And the price is right. Get it! EDIT: About 1 1/2 years has now past, and I can say that this seat-pad buys me an extra couple hours in the saddle. But used in combination with my padded shorts I can ride all day long, and have now gone on a couple multi-day camping trips. Neither the shorts or the seat-cover by themselves are the solution, it's the two in combination which yield multi-day riding comfort. While it varies I'd say 8-10 hours straight is what this combination buys me in complete comfort. And 10-12 hours gets a bit sore towards the end, but at 40 who wouldn't? It has fadded a bit from black toward grey, but is still mostly black in appearance. It is water resistant on cool damp mornings, but not in Oregon rain. Though it seems to never become waterloged and dries quickly, especially when it gets wet while you're going down the road. It does slide side-to-side, but only about 1/2" of center in in either direction. And only noticed it doing so in the front where the seat is most narrow. I'm mentioning it for your review, but it's never been a problem. I just give it a tug once in a while and it's back in place. I don't even notice myself doing it anymore. But if you have a skinny seat you'll need to put extra effort into getting the straps tight. Over time it has left black marks in my seat-cover, but has not cut into the material. If it starts to look worn out, I'll just buy and new one, and clip it onto the old straps. Still happy. Still recommended.

So while i did end up using it for its overall function in the end, i did not use it as i had received it. It was much larger than my ninja 400 seat so i cut it to shape and used 550 cord to secure it. I used the webbing straps as the edge dressing to clean up the sides that had been cut. I did not waste the rest of it and made a seat cushion even for the passenger seat. Overall i really like the product and how easy it was to modify to suit my needs. Also i totally used a silicon based waterproofing spray to make it harder to absorb water. The only possible complaint even though it is miniscule is that it has no grip what so ever. Soft but slick. I may use some spray adhesive to give it a bit of grip. Do not get me wrong my hands werw getting cramped from all the stitching but i think it is worth it.

The Suzuki DR650 OEM seat is really bad. Even the alternative gel seat is pretty awful. This Coleman (aka Stearns) seat cover won't transform your seat into an item of luxury, but it does make it much more tolerable. I put this cover over my Suzuki gel seat and the improvement is very noticeable. The gel seat is about 1" lower than the OEM seat. This cover raised my seat height slightly, bringing it closer to the OEM seat. While it does fit both the OEM and gel seats for the DR650, it is not a 100% perfect fit. A previous reviewer mentioned that it took about 5 minutes to install, but it took me closer to 30 minutes of messing around to get it mounted nicely. I'd say that it's about 85% perfect fit. The quick-release buckles on the sides of the cover are what made it difficult to get fitted just right. I really don't like them. This product would be much better if the quick-release buckles were an easily-removed and optional item. If they continue to cause me problems, I may break them off and use bungee cords to hold the cover in place. Overall, this is a really good choice for improving the DR650 on a budget. It's not perfect, but considering that an aftermarket seat costs 15X more, this is a very nice and inexpensive option. If you're doing long-distance riding on your DR650, you should get the aftermarket seat. If you're not doing anything more than 2-hour rides, this seat cover is pretty good.

KLR650 Installation Instructions: Quick review.. excellent, but no one tells you the correct way to install, so here goes: 1. Remove both side air dams (below seat). Use your storage rack toolbox.. it has all the right tools. (2 easy nuts each side). 2. Remove seat (1 nut each side and then pull back and up, being careful not to rip fuel line coming from tank). 3. Detach cords from the new seat cushion using the clips and LEAVE THE SMALL END from each clip on the SEAT cushion (so that you have the cord with all male adapters and the seat all female). 4. Extend the cords to maximum length and (using the seat cushion as a sort of template/guide) lay the cords across the area in line (approximately) with the male/female clips. You're laying the cords UNDER where the seat is. Do not try to go under any bars or loops/tie-downs ..just lay them out and make sure you have about equal amount of cord hanging from each side. 5. Carefully reposition the seat and bolt down secure. The cords should be lined up when you place the seat cushion on top of the seat. If they're close, that's OK ..the cords will be able to be moved slightly forward/backward when you're done. 6. Put back first air dam with cords laid up OVER THE SEAT. You're not going around the air deflectors, you're only going around the seat. Line up the air dam holes and bolt them both back on. If done correctly, your cords will now be flapping by your air dams, coming out from under your seat. 7. Pretty obvious from here.. clip the damn cushion on. This process also makes the cushion fully removable so when it rains, you can bring the cushion inside. Hope that helps...

The MadDog seat protector's main feature may be just that: a seat protector. I don't think it is more comfortable that my seat in a R1200 GSA, which is not comfortable at all for long trips. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age down there, but after a two hour ride on the low seat version for my bike I start hurting. I thought this would remedy the situation but as it turns out it is just as hard. (Reviewed) A few things I did like about this seat cover, and those are: It protects your seat from the bleaching sun It rides cooler given the waffle design I slide better on it than the OEM seat It has long enough straps to attach without removing the seat I cannot attest to the durability yet but it does seem well constructed of sturdy materials. All that being said, if height is of importance to you, be aware this seat cover will raise you up an inch off the ground. Update: I rode on this seat protector for seven hours today. It was mildly hot and not so humid for a Florida day. The seat kept me comfortable during the ride. I never hurt like I used to before using this seat cover. It also remains cooler than the original seat under the sun. I will ride more often and take longer rides now that it has become more enjoyable. Certainly worth the money. I'll raise it to five stars!

Bought for my drz400 as it has super sharp seat corners that are punishing after a hard day of offroading. This worked okay but not as designed. The top as pictured in the ad is really slippery. So slippery in fact that halfway up a long hill I had to unclip this from my seat because I kept sliding off the bike and had to hold myself on with my arms and that got tiring after ten minutes up this long technical hill. Not all was lost, when I got home and was able to unbolt the seat I was able to flip this cover over as the bottom is more of a canvas material and while not quite as grippy as the stock seat it was much better than the topside and still blunted the sharp corners of the seat on the cheap!! On the drz the seat is quite narrow and this thing goes all the way to the bottom edge in front and almost to the bottom in the rear but it looks okay and functions quite adequately.

Actually a perfect fit on my 2005 VFR800! I Was very surprised at how it changed my riding comfort. The wider seat area makes for a much less strenuous ride. This seat probably works best for anyone who has a wider, longer, uniform seat (rider and passenger are one unit). I don't think this would work well on a bike with individual seats (i.e. a Ninja or CBR). If you really wanted to try, you could probably cut it to length. It's only $15! To anyone who is commenting that the foam compresses too much after a long ride, I think they were expecting far too much from a $15 seat and being too picky. They're ignoring the fact you need to spend $400+ on an aftermarket Sargent or Corbin seat for a truly upgraded experience. This is a bargain and recommended to anyone who wants to make a minor, inexpensive, but very effective change to their riding comfort.

I originally bought this for my 2005 KLR650 but never got around to modifying the straps and putting it on. I traded the bike in for a 2014 V-Strom DL650 and when I remembered I had this pad in the back of the closet, I decided I'd try it on the new bike. It fits fairly well without any modifications to the straps. Installation was easy, although I fiddled with its placement for about 10 minutes until I had it just where I liked it. It looks pretty good on the bike, although it's a few inches short of covering the whole seat. For the most part, the passenger area is covered, but the cushion is really for me so it's not really a concern. The cushion is pretty stiff, but adds a little height and width to seat while its padded sections provide some extra comfort on long rides. I also like that it protects my stock seat from scuffs and sun damage. Not a bad purchase for $20.

I've tried a lot of products for the monkey butt problem and this is the best yet.ive put one on my long distance trail bike and it helps a lot.ive had seats refoamed,gel inserts put in at a lot more cost than the mad dog.it is that good at the relative small price i purchased another one a month later as a spare.

Great product for the price. It is made for Quad bikes, but I put mine on my CRF250l Honda motorcycle. The reason being my own personal seat cushion is not as firm now as it was 4 decades ago. I need some added cushioning. The basic seat from my motorcycle is known to be uncomfortable according to the different reviews I read. So I order this seat in the hope I will be able to ride more than an hour before I need to walk a bit. So I receive this seat. The quality of the construction is very good. However it did not fit my motorcycle. the snaps and the quick release buckles are to bulky. I cannot put my seat in its position with the MadDog on it. I know it wasn't made for a motorcycle but I was determined to make it fit. The solution was scary because it implied modifying the MadDog in a way I couldn't return it for reimbursement. The straps and adjustable buckles are the all attached to the seat by fabric loops sewn to the seat. So I took some cutter pliers and cut the buckles, leaving only the loops. I then used ropes and tie the MadDog to my seat shoe laces style. The result; now I can put back my motorcycle seat in its position with the Maddog in place and everything is nice and snugly. And the ride is so much more comfortable.
