If like me u suffer from ibs - do yourself a favour - BUY THIS BOOK! It is written by someone considered to be a world authority on ibs and other bowel conditions! I have been under his care at Manchesterโs Wythingshaw hospital for the past 20 years ( I first was referred to him when I lived in Wales - and Iโm in Church Stretton now and Iโm still a patient of his- BECAUSE HES BRILLIANT!!! And he knows what heโs talking about! His book is brilliant- and itโs written in plain easy to understand English ! Even if u have suffered ur ibs for a length of time- I promise you that you will still gain an insight into the condition that u didnโt know before !

EXCELLENT guide and a MUST READ and IMPLEMENT for IBS sufferers!
I have struggled with IBS since I was 11 or 12 (I am now 33) I have spent literally thousands of dollars on medical consults, functional medicine tests, behavioural therapists etc. No one or method really game me much guidance. IBS is generally poorly managed. I got to the stage where I educated myself and managed my own condition as best I could as I gave up hope of finding someone to help me. In 2013, I found Professor Whorwell. At the time I was living in Sydney and flew to Manchester (UK) to visit him. I learned more in that one hour consult than I had in years prior as to why I was still unable to manage my IBS. Since then, following Professor Whorwell's guidance my IBS is SIGNIFICANTLY more manageable (not cured) and my quality of life in INFINITELY better. I remain under his care for the ongoing management of my condition. If you have IBS - look no further. You must read this book and implement (do the work!). There are many conflicting views on the management of IBS. When you read this book you may find some of the things that you are eating and doing now are in fact making your symptoms much worse. If what you are currently doing is not working for you - commit to change and follow through. Thank you so much Prof Whorwell for your guidance and the work that you do, you have changed my life and I hope this book changes many others. Kind Regards, Rachel Guy

Really good book written so ordinary people can understand!
This book was recommended by my Gastroenterologist to help with management of IBS. It's one of the few books that doesnโt major on FODMAP diets or one particular treatment, this makes it a good overall summary of all the symptoms and potential ways to treat them. Like any book it's not got everything in it but it's a good read and has already helped me ask the right questions.

Thank you Professor Whorwell!
By far the best guide I have read (there have been many) I recommend this book to anyone living with IBS or supporting someone who does. Very few books live up to their title but this does - it really is a complete guide! Brilliantly written, Professor Whorwell's wealth of experience is evident. He makes the subject matter easy to understand and is comprehensive and honest in his advice which will benefit anyone not lucky enough to be able to see him in person. In my opinion, this should be required reading for GP's - I shall be making mine aware of this guide. The book provides such insight that I feel certain, following the professors guidance and with the continued support of my GP (and my wonderful wife) I will be able to move forward and master what can be at times a thoroughly miserable condition.

Disappointing
Firstly I would like to say that this book is exceptionally well written and easy enough to understand for people without a medical degree. The reason for only three stars is because there is no new information in this book. If you are new to IBS then this book would be ideal but for us that have been struggling for years its of little help as what has been suggested are things we have all tried. The author has pointed out that there has been very little research into IBS and presumably thats why the book is lacking anything new.

Helped me find IBS symptom relief
Just reading the preface of Take Control of your IBSโ helped me understand why it is so difficult to get a diagnosis and effective treatment of IBS. Professor Whorwellโs 30 plus years of work in this field makes his book a reassuring read, dispelled some myths and helped guide me to making a plan for managing my symptoms. I feel more confident in general now that my symptoms are within my control.

Buy it! I hope it does for you what it did for us!
If you are on the journey of trying to understand and control your IBS you must read this book. My son has suffered from what we now know is severe IBS for over six years. Meeting Professor Whorwell and discovering his book here on Amazon was the beginning of getting control of what caused my sone to have two years off school. What the book imparts is that people are different but this book give you and understanding of the problem and the range of treatments available to combat it. Itโs full of explanation and advice. I canโt recommend it highly enough. And Professor Whorwell is very dedicated and incredibly kind consultant!

A great book that has helped me.
A surprisingly easy book to read bearing in mind the sensitive nature of the subject matter. The book is very informative and has opened my eyes to this most unpleasant condition, which I have had for many years. I now have a much better understanding of what IBS is, how it affects me and the strategies that I will develop to better manage my symptoms. In essence this is a great book and I thoroughly recommend it.

If you really wan to get better, consider this book
I've been diagnosed with IBS more than eight years ago. I've seen many doctors and researched a lot myself on the condition and it's healing myself too. I now use different methods from different sources to get better. But tis book still helped me understand so much that I hadn't figured out yet. It's also a good book if you want to understand IBS better if someone close to you is suffering. Make sure they read this too :)

Easy to read and packed with useful information about IBS
This easy to read, easy to follow book will enable IBS sufferers to fully understand the sometimes confusing symptoms and aspects of IBS. The book provides sufferers with options and tips they may utilise in order to get relief from this condition. I found the book highly informative, and as a sufferer of 33 years with this condition I still learned a number of facts of which I was not aware. So there is always something new to learn even when you think you know everything there is to know about your condition. I highly recommend this book for both long-term and newbie sufferers of IBS!
