Yaesu CT-39/A apparatus PACKET interface cable Yaesu

It's a Yaesu CT-39. Not much more to say, new, works, USPO didn't thrash it enroute. What more can I ask

I'll add a photo later. I'm not adept at jockeying pics from the smartphone to my personal engineering workstation, on which I'm writing this review. Anyway, ...Yup, there's an extra black insulated conductor. Take a closer look at where those two black wires disappear in the overall jacket. One of 'em is the drain wire with shrink tube over it. It connects to something on the annulus (outside edge) of the extruded cable. The other black wire joins the five other colored conductors, and appears on the mini-DIN connector as the pin under the red and yellow pins. The drain is electrically continuous to the metal housing on the DIN connector. I'm gonna go with "overall shield".OK, so the individual conductors aren't individually shielded. I wouldn't expect them to be. First, there aren't any differential signal pairs. Second, the audio and digital signals are mutually exclusive in either mode, and again in receive/transmit operations. Only one or two at most signals are active at the same time, and one of those is the PTT signal, so I'm personally not shook up about that.Oh yeah, that molded strain relief on the end with the flying leads. Thanks, saves me the messing around to do my own that's fancier than a single knot inside the connector housing.
