I rarely write reviews. I bought this because the house we moved into had a worthless hinge like this on the garage door. I was hesitant because I didn't want the thing to slam shut or be hard to open, etc. But, fire safety and escaping animals made it a must have. I could not be happier with this thing. Adjustment is easy and four clicks is the perfect amount of tension for our door. It closes all the way, every time. It closes slowly, through the whole range and never slams. It is easy enough to open that having groceries in hand isn't a concern. Just perfection on all fronts.

Replaced the hinges on our apartment entry door. The hinges came with both wood screws and machine screws for wood or metal installation. We have a HEAVY wood door and metal frame. Two hinges and it is holding up like a champ. The tension adjustment is straightforward. You can even install it with no noticeable tension if you do not want self closing. Check the screw pattern before ordering. This one lined up with the existing exactly. Other hinges have a staggered screw pattern.

Works as expected

I have the 3 1/2" model purchased elsewhere. Finally I realized that there are TWO models which can be confused if you are looking for "Help" installing. Pay attention to this. One model suggests a PIN on the top knuckle is removable and there's a video how to do it; the other looks the same but it ISN'T removable. On that model, you can't get the hinge to OPEN so you can install it, and it's not about the pin. Look at the instructions for the OTHER model. Find a way to follow them, BECAUSE they say to "depress" the hex socket used to increase spring tension, and turn it back (release spring). You need to hold it in a vise and use locking pliers to do that. Otherwise you will think it's impossible. With the right model & instructions you stand a chance (vise & visegrips, or remove the pin). Of course, if you already know how to install the version you have, you don't really need instructions. BUT: Wrong model? It's possible! Use the other instructions. Why don't the 2 models come with an advisory as to which one you have??? I spent hours figuring this out.
