Nice Radio head unit, especially if you are looking for something with Android Auto
I upgraded from an ATOTO S8 Gen2 7 inch head unit to the S8 Gen4 (S84G209P), and the improvement is noticeable right away. The screen is brighter, the interface is smoother, the radio interface is better, and the homescreen looks nicer. I also like that you can customize it with the apps you actually use. The ability to do over the air updates is another big improvement compared to the older units. Installation wasnโt too hard. If you follow a lot of YouTube videos and take your time, you can definitely do it yourself. The fit was as expected, I just had to modify the area where the unit comes through so it sat the way I wanted. If you know how to connect wires, the instructions were pretty easy to follow. I recommend buying a Metra harness and wiring it directly to the wires ATOTO sends. That way youโre not trying to splice everything from the carโs plug, and if you ever need to return the unit or swap your old radio back in, itโs a quick change instead of a full redo. One thing I appreciated with the Gen4 is the USB setup. My old S8 Gen2 only had USB 1.0, and when I used Android Auto on long drives, my phone would barely charge. It would stay even the whole time. The Gen4 includes USB 3.0 and 2.0, and the 3.0 port charges my phone quickly even while running Android Auto. Thatโs a big plus for daily driving. Overall, the Gen4 feels like a solid upgrade in speed, customization, and everyday usability. Itโs definitely a step up from the older S8 models.

Solid, inexpensive and sounds great.
I had an Atoto head unit in an old Jeep of mine that endured some pretty bad conditions. It was rained on, covered in dirt and in the southwest sun for years and never failed on me. So when I got a new Jeep another Atoto went into it. The S8 Gen 4 is a really nice upgrade to the last Atoto head unit and the company has come far. What really impresses me is the speed of the head unit. Most of these inexpensive units can be laggy and have severely underpowered CPUs for what features they have. This unit has clean animations and smooth transitions between apps. The only time I've been able to make this lag is when I was in the DSP settings and I just kept changing frequencies over and over again. This unit also goes into a standby mode when you shut your vehicle down meaning that, when you turn your vehicle back on, it's less than 2 seconds for the unit to come back up where you were. That impressed the heck out of me since I have been used to a Ram truck with Uconnect. A full boot from off to wireless Android Auto being active is just under 10 seconds. It's fast. Audio quality is another area where this unit stands out. I paired it with a set of SKAR Audio 6.5 components and 6.5 3 ways and it rocks. The DSP adjustments are crazy compared to stock head units. I can't wait to get a subwoofer in my Jeep to see how good this system can really sound. Aside from being compatible with a backup camera, this unit is also compatible with dash cams! I haven't played around too much with it yet, but the dash cam was plug and play. Make sure to look at compatible models before you order one! It's also compatible with USB storage devices, AI compatible ticker signs, interior lighting and all sorts of other devices. The 4G cell service works well and the built in GPS is really good. Google maps directly installed on the unit and not through my phone was pretty awesome and saved my phone a LOT of battery. So what's bad about it? I've only found three things that I didn't like. First, the initial Android Auto setup was weird. All you need to do is pair your phone's bluetooth and then restart the head unit. It'll then automatically connect to your phone wirelessly and it's done. Super easy. Second, this unit lets you install anything through the Play Store. Which means I was driving down the road with Game of Thrones playing on HBO Max at one point. This is dangerous and distracting. The head unit DOES have an option to disable video playing when the vehicle in motion, but it should be on by default. And third, it was difficult to keep in mind what options were where. You have settings for the head unit, settings for the Android operating system on the head unit, settings in google maps and more. It can be hard when you're driving down the road just to try and remember which settings menu to open to turn the brightness down or change the navigation volume. Overall I give this head unit a solid 5 stars. You really can't get something better for the price and with the fact that this system is responsive and VERY customizable, it's a no brainer. I've already convinced 2 friends to buy it. And you should, too.

great price great value
I've been using ATOTO car stereos for the past years and have great experience with the units. Installation of the S8 was as simple as disconnecting the wiring harness from the old unit and swapping it out with the new unit. The head unit is shallow in depth, which is convenient because it gives you plenty of space to work with as far as space needed to accommodate all the in-dash wiring. The sound quality out of the S8 is GREAT, Adjust the EQ to get the most out of it, which at 32 bands can be dialed in exactly to where you want it. It's great for both those who like to tweak their settings and those who just want to get tune it on the fly. The screen is really bright and easily viewable in direct sunlight and the resolution is great down to the finest details and smallest print. Touch is responsive and paging through menus is as snappy. Downloads and updates were installed without issue. Fits really well with my 2008 Honda Element SC. should fit other cars as well without problems

DO NOT BUY - you've been warned
Update: It is stuck in a factory reset loop. Completely unusable at 14 months. Finding support or firmware since it's not OTA updatable, is near impossible. It's not on the site or the warranty and updates pages. It was never great, you never knew if it would connect to your phone or how. It has a lot of bloatware you cannot get off of it. And CarPlay is a major after thought. DO NOT buy this if you want CarPlay, go with a more reputable brand. I self installed this paired with the atoto amp. The installation was fairly easy. I did need to buy a scoche adapter and make some connections, which again were easy and provided a bit more room to maneuver. For the money it's a decent CarPlay android unit. Is it awesome, no. The connectivity is wonky and drops often. Connecting it to wifi is near impossible and tethering a phone to it has been impossible as well. The atoto dash cam is a decent add on but takes up the only data cable you have, but, it doesn't seem to work for data from a phone for music or anything anyway. Again another connectivity issue. Music drops often due to this issue. The screen is plenty bright and the touch sensitivity is fine. If I knew which model would have provided a more stable connection either physically or wireless I would go that route. Can't say I would buy again,, probably wouldn't.

Nice touch screen
Stereo works great, instalation is straight foward if you know what you are doing. The stereo itself has really good sound quality and the touch screen works great. The android auto connects easy and is quick to react. If this is your first android stereo then expect a small learning curve but its way better then a normal stereo once you get used to it. Take into account that screen is larger then a typical double din stereo screen and is expected to protrude beyond the center console. The s8 has a fixed screen and cannot be removed or adjusted beyond the installation. The display can be seen even in bright the bright sun. Its only been a week but so far its work flawlessly.

High quality, excellent value radio
Crazy value, high quality radio. This is my 4th install of an Atoto headunit and they just keep getting better. The screen on this one is great! Installed this into a 2008 f250 and it looks perfect. No dash install kit needed, only the wiring harness adapter. The thin body on these makes wiring organization easy. The included brackets had enough adjustment for me to even tilt to my desired angle. This 9 inch unit is amazing for android auto and Google maps. So much safer and easier to see than the 7 inch radio maps. I also love the multi view with maps, Spotify, and weather. I swapped out an Atoto A5L and to my surprise it was the exact harness as the atoto A5L so it was a plug and play upgrade.

The absolute best you can get in this category and price
I have been using an ATOTO A6PF for the past couple of years and have had nothing but a great experience both with the unit itself and with ATOTO customer service. So it was a no-brainer when it came time to choose what brand I wanted to go with to replace it with an upgrade. Installing the S8 was as simple as disconnecting the wiring harness from the old unit and swapping it out and connecting the 4G antenna. Having an active mobile connection option built into the S8 is a huge bonus I had no idea I needed until I used it! The head unit itself is physically shallow in depth, which is super convenient because it gives you plenty of space to work with as far as space needed to easily accommodate all the in-dash wiring. I am using the built in amplifier to drive my speakers and it has all the power I need. The sound quality out of the S8 is GREAT, but I must say that it does require some adjusting of the EQ to get the most out of it, which at 32 bands can be dialed in exactly to where you want it. You can "draw" the entire EQ spectrum to make quick work of it, but you can also "Switch" it to fine tune each individual frequency and then some. I drew in a great sound in seconds but really got into the nitty gritty one day when I had the time and made it perfect for my ears. So it's great for both those who like to tweak their settings and those who just want to get tune it on the fly. The screen is bright and easily viewable in direct sunlight and the resolution is superb down to the finest details and smallest print. Input is extremely responsive and paging through menus is as snappy as my own personal tablet. Downloads and updates were installed without a single issue. My experience with ATOTO customer service both present and in the past has been honestly amongst some of the best I've ever had with any product. Any question or snag I ever ran into (a snag of my own doing ha) was completely resolved in less than a day and often within a few hours. They are one of the few companies who go above and beyond for their customers, so I can always rest assured they will take care of me if any issues rise in the future. For both price and quality, I can say for certain they are one if not THE best you can get in this category.

Nice alternative radio.
Still learning how to use it, touch response is a bit laggy at time and you open any app every button is small (Spotify, YouTube, maps). Sound quality is good but definitely have to go into developer mode to turn it up more. If you live in Florida the screen does get hot at times but it's normal. Video quality is really nice. Definitely happy I have it, easy to use, had a lot of help from some videos on YT.
