Worth the smell
I have hair past my waist and live in a warm, humid climate. That means shampooing my hair just about daily, following the rule of shampoo the scalp and condition the bottom 8-9 inches of hair. I chose this balm because if it is cleared for use on processed hair, it’s likely to be gentler than similar products.Once a week, I try to deep-condition by applying more product than usual, wrapping my hair over my scalp with one of those “disposable” hotel-type shower caps and then wrapping my head in a microfiber drying turban and leaving that on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing my hair and the cap. That’s how I used this conditioning balm. I did this weekly for a month before a hair appointment, and my stylist commented that the ends of my hair were less crispy than usual. Which was a relief, because this also helped reduce tangles out of the shower, and by then I had gotten more used to what the maker calls the scent but I call the odd smell. (Thankfully, the smell mostly fades by the time my hair is air-dried.)

Heavy but nourishing
This is just an Ok conditioner. Since my hair is very thin I only use conditioner on my ends. The formula is like a thick lotion or cream, and you need a bit of force to squeeze it out of the bottle. It has a strong scent right out of the bottle that I can’t quite describe, but I don’t like it. The smell doesn’t linger after the rinse but I still don’t like it.It does untangle my hair well and my ends don’t look dry. I think it’s too heavy though, and I think my ends look more dirty than hydrated.I don’t think it does a great job protecting my color.Seems to be a decent nourishing formula for someone with thicker hair.

Floral Rose Scent. Lightweight but deep Condition.
12.26.21~ All I use on my sun tortured, color treated hair is balms/masks.So loved the idea of a mask in a tube vs tub that is a challenge in the shower.'Better Natured' balm does work. Gives great body.Maybe not as deep as a condition as I'm used to & need.Definitely need a leave-in with this one.Air dry is frizzy without 2nd step. The tube hole is not quite big enough.Really have to put some muscle in it to squeeze out a thick glob.If you have grip issues may want to consider it a challenge.Smells very floral & does not fade on rinsed hair. It's a bit too rose-like for my taste.I like roses but rose scents don't smell like the flower & this is rose-y.None of these are real deal breakers. Just inconveniences.Like 'Better Natured' as a whole. It's Zotos product which is one of my fave hair colors. For a Cruelty Free, Silicone Free product it's a close 2nd to my fave ABC.

Awful stuff
This stuff smells like the compost bin after a week of 100°+ weather. Disgusting. Isn’t “nourishing” at all. Made my hair knot up so bad. There are much better deep conditioners that are color safe. Stay away from this garbage.

Unusual Scent, Fine Results ...
I first used the matching shampoo. Once I had a clean slate, I used this mask. I really layered it on (because I have very long, very thick hair). Once I worked it through my hair, I stacked my hair on my head and continued my routine. Now, you may notice the unusual scent: the "top notes" seem to be almond/cherry bark. But then there is this dark, musky scent underlying the mask. It's odd. This took a bit to rinse and then required a lot of time to comb through. Ultimately, my hair looked pretty typical (but with the thought that this is a "cleaner" product ... which is good.)
