All in all this is a must-have for any serious Carver fan and I'm extremely glad to have a first edition hardcover in my own ...
Some of Carver's most heartfelt (and therefore important) poems are in here, as are some musings that perhaps shouldn't have been bothered with after a first draft. I had a lump in my throat sometimes, and dismissively flipped past flickers of average-ness at other times. All in all this is a must-have for any serious Carver fan and I'm extremely glad to have a first edition hardcover in my own bookshelf.

Great Book - Buy it Anywhere Else
The content and back story of this set of poems speak wonderfully to people fighting cancer or recovery. I buy and give it away to folks in those situations whenever I see a copy. However when I went to purchase a couple here, I found that Amazon charges as much as the book itself for shipping. Buy two? That's double, so I'm out $20.Amazon is out a customer (I recently started ordering from them after a nearly 8 year hiatus from another major customer service debacle...going back to local retailers again...)

If you love poetry you must have this collection
Raymond Carver. Need I say more? This was his last book. He was the best writer of short stories I have ever encountered. His poetry is so poignant. This collection was published in 1989, the year following his death. Carver was a man of the people whose life was full of struggle and sadness. He was a literary genius whose work won five O Henry awards. He fell into alcoholism and recovered with the support of AA after years of misery. He was married twice, divorced once, and fathered two children. You must read all of his work.

Not to be missed!
The introduction and poems in this book are spectacular. "Quiet Nights" was my favorite poem - and all the more impressive given that it is only 19 words long. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

What a phenomenal talent. It's also neat to know the places that Raymond Carver writes about in the surrounding area of Yakima, Wadhington.
