Demystifying Patanjali: The Yoga Sutras: The Wisdom of Paramhansa Yogananda as Presented by his Direct Disciple, Swami Kriyananda

a good place to start with Patanjali
I find this book easy to understand. Terms are defined, and the author provides a lot of historical context for his presentation. Since it's the first book I've read on Patanjali's teachings, I don't know how it compares with others. I gave it four stars for its clarity, depth, and presentation.

Wouldn't recommend
There's no sanskrit texts only English translation, however, the translation can be very misleading, commentaries are not very clear and it gets really bad and watery from the third pada, the swami had a strong opinion of his/her own which made it a bit annoying to come to a more full understanding of what patajali is trying to say. Try the copy from Edwin Bryant or Light on Yoga Sutra by Iyengar.

Swami Kriyananda does a great job explaining the scriptures in a way that is clear and applicable to daily life. This translation of the scripture is excellent as well. This is a must read for anyone who would like any direction at all on their spiritual journey.

Great Read
My conscious had some pangs of regret when I heard that the author was a shyster. But what the heck...he’s only human ? Demystified for sure !

Helpful
Lots of good info in the book. Look past the authors personal feelings and just pull out the golden nuggets. Well worth the money.

A very good book with a lot of interesting points about the yoga sutras. However it is not written by Yogananda but one of his disciples many years after Yoganadas death. The disciple is in his own words not a Sanskrit scholar and his qualification to write the book is that he is self realized. Get this book if you are interested in the yoga sutras but don't just this book.

Priceless for the Sutras, but worthless commentaries...
Certainly a very good translation of the Yoga Sutras, which probably came from Yogananda, and it's priceless. But commentaries are almost dispensable (boring): they don't add to the eternal knowledge expressed in the Sutras themselves, there's an egotistical point of view and short sighted preconceptions. Worth it, if you don't pay attention to those!

Worst Book
Waste of money .Don't purchase this book by looking the cover. Kriyananda have no knowledge of real Yoga and have copied from other sources. Complete waste of money and time. Please beaware of unverified purchase rewiews.
