Great gift for employees.

Bought these for my husband because he's a woods teacher and also does wood and house renovation projects. He always needs a pencil or marker and can never find one near him. I thought these would be good because you can put any size/type of utencil in the expandable part but also is light weight. My husband ended it using it like a key chain and lanyard. He kept getting it stuck when he'd get out of the car or doors. As well as taking off his coat or accidentally clasping it against something. The cord would pull out and snap. Its okay if you use it spareingly or if you like to clip it by a chest pocket or collar. But don't clip it by your hips, belt, or keys.

The 'pocket clip' on the pen holder would be good without the recoil cord. If you're going to use the recoiling cord; the pocket clip which is permanently attached to the pen holder is just a nuisance. If you're not going to use the recoiling cord; you can just detach it. I cut the 'pocket clip' down to just flush, (dremel,) with the pen holder. That makes the gadget 'live-able'. The clip that is part of the springy pen holder just adds clumsiness and weight if you are going to use the retractable cord. The retractable cord has no 'clutch'. The retractor is always pulling on pen which is also somewhat inconvenient. Could be a 5 star but not as presented.

Absolutely worth getting. Even with a tool belt, I'm constantly misplacing my pencil.

I was hoping not to dislike this item but, for a lanyard specifically for use with a pen/pencil, it really has no use. The retract mechanism is far too strong to keep the pencil attached/and/write with it at the same time. I pulls too hard. Having to remove the pen from the holder completely defeats the purpose of having a lanyard in the first place. A MUCH better option would be to have a retract with a softer pull, and or a locking mechanism like most retractable spools have.

This has a steel cable and strong spring that has not hung up yet. The clip is loose enough to slide over thicker hems. Very happy with the design and value.

I love this pencil holder. My husband uses it at his blue-collar job every day and it never fails. It has a lot of potential with the different things it can hold. Ranging from pens to keys to tools while working on the car. It has a decent amount of length when unwinding and is very handy.
