The Beauty Volume 1 (BEAUTY TP)

The Beauty comic book series has some of the finest comic book covers I have ever seen, but unfortunately I came later to it and have the volume with the first 6 issues and it has a few of the covers in black and white, but a great colourful front cover. It's like macabre art nouveau. But The Beauty is much more than some fantastic art, it is also a fantastically original story.Society is obsessed by beauty and the beautiful and luckily there is a sexually transmitted disease that once you are infected, you get more beautiful every day. It's that horrible dichotomy, you are infected but you look far better than the uninfected. After 800 days though, you pay and you pay dearly. Two detectives are trying to solve the deaths, find a cure and beat infection. But, not everyone wants the cure - why would they? They look amazing, are super attractive and might beat the odds.This is a great series with a very interesting premise that holds a mirror up to modern society.

The Beauty is an interesting horror comic that is based on the premise that there is a STD that makes people who catch it beautiful. In fact it's meant to be pretty wonderful other than a slight fever. Of course, the cost is a lot greater than what people think.As with most Image comics, I enjoyed it a lot. The first three four issues included were definitely the strongest parts but the last two seemed to break the pacing a little. Over all nice art, very interesting concept and engaging characters. It will be intriguing to see where it goes.

An interesting concept about the world with an STD making people beautiful but the infected don't know the costs they are going to pay for it yet. Recently I've read a few graphic novels where I like the idea but the story was disappointing, luckily this is not the case here. The plot revolves around two detectives investigating the disease and it is engaging, fast-paced and finishing the book made me want to jump into the second volume straight away. Highly recommended!

A beautifully crafted story with simply astonishing artwork.This is a very dark and contemporary tale that sucks you in effortlessly.A wholly believable premise that has a number of dark characters woven into the story making it a real page turner.A disease that people want in pursuit of being beautiful which it seems may come at too high a price and sinister forces with hidden agendas out to thwart hopes of a cure.I kept thinking 'screenplay' as I made my way through the first collected instalment.Very intelligent, first class entertainment.Don't hesitate to start following this one now.........

I liked the concept but as I was reading through the first volume the story just wasn't doing it for me. A shame because I really hoped this would be another good series to pick up, but safe to say I won't be reading the other volumes.

Absorbing plot & exciting art. It reads like a movie & has a seductive atmosphere. The danger & horror is the spice.

Really good plot and art. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit “Breaking Bad” . That is get yourself into an impossible situation and then get out of it easily, but badly. Also, it could have ended there. It seems though there is more. I think I will be happy with this ending as I seem to have lost interest.

Original Horror Thriller, great Artwork & Storyline, will definitely get some further issues, my only beef is that they could have come up with a better name for the disease than BEAUTY ? It’s just not catchy enough & sounds a bit corny but that’s a small complaint compared to how good this actually is …

Indie publishers have some of the best material, and this is one of many books that I've enjoyed. A really creative premise and the ending left me satisfied.

¿Y si todos fuéramos bellos? ¿Y si esa belleza se volviera una sentencia de muerte? Un thriller que nos lleva a cuestionamientos filosóficos. Casi todas las enfermedades dejan efectos devastadores en la fisonomía del enfermo, pero en este caso los hace más hermosos, lo que parecería una ventaja no lo es.

A great part one to a very interesting and unique premise. Solidly written and beautifully drawn.Definitely a must-read.

Die Geschichte beginnt interessant. Ein Virus lässt Menschen scheinbar ohne negative Effekte wunderschön werden. Einige gesellschaftskritische Themen drängen sich natürlich auf und werden hier zum Teil auch behandelt. Das ist aber nicht der Hauptaugenmerk des Comics.Die Geschichte liegt irgendwo zwischen Body-Horror und Crime-Thriller, wir begleiten zwei Cops, die sich auf der Suche nach Antworten zwangsläufig in die Kreise der Superschönen begeben.Ich hätte mir etwas mehr von der Welt gewünscht. Der Virus, der Menschen schön macht, scheint noch relativ neu zu sein, viele wissen nicht, wie man damit umgehen soll, welche Spätfolgen er haben könnte etc., viel Material also, mit dem man hätte arbeiten können, wenn man den Leser diese schöne neue Welt zusammen mit den Protagonisten erforschen lässt.Wie gehen die Menschen damit um? Welchen Wert hat Schönheit überhaupt, wenn im Prinzip jeder sie einfach erreichen kann? Wie werden Menschen behandelt, die nicht bereit sind, sich per Virus zu verschönern? Gibt es ein Stigma gegenüber Menschen, die sich verschönern? Was halten die Schönheitsindustrie, Chirurgen, Hersteller von Faltencremes und andere, die mit dem Wunsch nach Schönheit bisher gut verdient haben, eigentlich von der Sache? Angeschnitten werden einige dieser Themen zwar, aber ich hätte gern mehr darüber erfahren. Es gibt kleine Teile der Story, die wirklich gelungen sind und andere, bei denen ich mich wirklich am Kopf gekratzt habe.Das Ende macht auf jeden Fall Lust auf mehr, aber ob die Story sich auch in die richtige Richtung bewegt, wird sich noch zeigen müssen.

英語の勉強に英語の小説を読んでいますが、ちょっと趣をかえてみようということで読んで見ました。買って見るまで気づかなかったのですが、kindleはコマごとに表示できるのですね。実はサンプルをibooksで見てからkindleで買ったのですが、コマごとにする機能はibooksにはないようでした。kindleはコマごとになるので字が大きくなって読みやすいです。絵があるので状況がわかりやすく、サラサラ読めて２時間くらいで読めました（長すぎかもしれませんが。。）。これを続けるにはちょっとお金がかさむので微妙ですが、結構気に入りました。面白そうな漫画があれば買って読むのもありかと思いました。
