My cat;s water fountain got drain flies in it. He is old and gets bits of food in thewater, and the drain flies feed on the speckes of food in the water. having clean filters makes all the difference in keeping the water clean.

I love these they work perfectly in my cupcake style fountain. The only thing I wish was different was I wish there were twice as many of the square spongy pre-filters. I’ve only got one cat but he likes to dump his face in it sometimes so there’s a lot of hair and the pre-filter catches that hair but every time I change the water the spongy pre-filter is all clogged up with his hair. It’s next to impossible to get it all out. The other thing I noticed is that sometimes these pre-filters will turn orange and I don’t know why. I use distilled water in the fountain because my cat has kidney disease and I was advised to use distilled water for him. So I know it’s not minerals in the hard water. I don’t like when they turn orange because I don’t know why they do that. I found a box of just the sponge pre-filters that fit my cupcake style fountain motor and filter assembly. So now I change it every time I clean the fountain and change out the water. And it’s much better.

Lasts me the whole year.
