Do the the ends of the wires have built in crimps?

I wish I could tell you. Item was shipped by seller but vanished in transit. Though seller had many still listed for sale, they stated they presently had none. When I commented back about that being a violation of policy they refunded my $, stated I will probably still receive it but couldn't give them feedback after the refund happened and never received the item. Just went and bought a new deck. Beware the sellers of these items. Get it locally if you can, little more expensive but I later found a pawnshop a few miles away that had them... Actually better ones for about the same price, no waiting, less hassle than playing games with these china importers.

For home theater use, is there a remote wire that must be connected to a power on? And what have you connected it to? (Not for car audio)

Power on for a home theater system is done by a remote control that provides an RF or optical signal to the front of the receiver.  You could have a switched electric outlet for the power on-off to the receiver, but that would be redundant if you have a remote control for the  device.

What is the maximum wattage that the unit can handle and does it need power?

I ran 2100 watts at 3/4 power and it's still working.as far as power you just connect to speaker lines and it draws power from those. The extra negative lines are for clarity and help with static noise

Can this be used for av reciever without pre outs? i want to connect a 2ch avr to power amp or xover.

this device takes the high power signal from a speaker and converts it to a line level signal to feed something like a preamplifier. If your AV receiver only has speaker level outputs & you want to feed that signal to a power amp/crossover for a subwoofer that doesn't have speaker level input (say, RCA input only) this would do that for you. You connect the wire end of this device to the +/- of the speaker wire from your receiver and then connect RCA cables from the RCA connectors on this device & run them to the RCA input on your amp/xover
