very enjoyable
A tragic story of self sacrifice with a happy ending .. Lies, coverups, discrimination, control, repression and strength all in a small country county .. I thoroughly enjoyed the story .. the characters were an interesting diverse compilation of personalities which provided emotional stimulation .. I would recommend .

SPOILERS: Enjoyed this book, but dinged it a star because of some omissions & inconsistencies.
This was a lovely, heartrending love story that I really enjoyed. I would have given it a 5-star, but I dinged it a star because of some omissions and inconsistencies that really bothered me. One was the fact that Becca and Aaron never had any children of their own. There was no explanation for this: Was he infertile? Was she infertile? Did they make a conscious decision not to have their own biological children? Or did they not have sex at all? Why was this not even mentioned?Towards the end of the story, Becca finally turns Wilks Perdue's hat over to the police, and we assume an investigation will take place as to what really happened the night that Emmy's boyfriend, John Rutrough, died. But nothing is ever mentioned again about this, so this story thread never got tied up.At the end of the story, Aaron has gone back to Ohio. But there was never a mention of a divorce between him and Becca. Did they get divorced? It appears that Becca and Matt are together at the end of the book, but it never says if they got married. Also, with Aaron gone, Jacob and Linda are running the farm that Jacob grew up on and where Martha lives. But this didn't make any sense because earlier in the book there was a scene that said that Linda, a vegetarian, refused to raise any animals on their own farm that would end up being killed and used for meat. So she and Jacob end up raising goats and make a living off of selling goat milk and goat cheese. How all of a sudden could they then go back to Jacob's childhood home and tend to a dairy farm ? There was no mention of how Linda reconciled her vegarianism to this turn of events.I wish the author hadn't changed the name of the book. I thought "Crossing Tinker's Knob" was a much more apt name for the book, because as a child Becca had always wanted to climb this mountain and see what was on the other side. She finally gets to do it towards the end of the book, and has kind of an epiphany. The name "And Then She Loved Me", just sounds like another romantic pulp book.I would also liked to have had more detail about how the end came together. I thought the ending was very abrupt, which was annoying after such a nice story.

Love?
This is an unrequited love store. Filled with manipulation, pride and bigotry within the characters. Mostly it is a story about how we hurt others by untruths or with holding truths to protect ourselves or our pride. While it is a good story with much meaning it dragged at times for me.

Lovely book!
Loved this book. The author took us from a tragic occurrence that happened so many years ago to the present, and the lives that were effected by the decisions made and secrets kept! I will not go into any more detail so as to not cause a spoiler alert! I can say I throughly enjoyed the back and forth from the past to the present! First book by this author! Won't be my last. Highly recommended!!

Second Read
Truly the best story I've ever read. Beautiful love story. I related to it on many levels. I have it on my Kindle, but I just ordered the paperback for my book collection and to read again.

Simply a superb book, finely crafted
It is seldom that one finds a book that is so engrossing, so heart-wrenching, so beautifully crafted that it will be read and re-read often as time passes. Such is this book.I began reading quite some time after purchasing it, so I forgotten the overall description. Therefore, I began with no expectations other than the hope that I would enjoy the journey. I did! Oh, yes, there were times when I had to stop reading because I could no longer see the words through my tears. The further I read in the book, the more emotional I became. It was a leisurely journey, one to savor for all its nuances. The characters came to life; I could hear them, I could see them, I could feel their emotions. There were a few moments when I longed to skip pages ... and those moments were few and fleeting. I didn't skip the pages ... I wanted to feel every emotion, hear every word, witness every event.A side note to those readers who have complained about the ending: Did we read the same book? I found the ending to be excellent; it tied up several loose ends, and there was no doubt as to what happened to the main characters. Did you not read Abby's letter to her mother at the end?Thank you, Inglath Cooper, for sharing your immense talent with the world. I will remember this book for a long, long time.

Does love really triumph all odds?
When I was reading this book I so often found myself thinking, 'this is a five star book'! But, at the end I am giving it a four star because the ending could have been written in a more compelling manner. Yes, the author did tie up a bunch of loose ends, and you will find that the ending is okay. You get the answers you need. But, it was written in such a way that I was just not satisfied enough with this book to give it a five star rating. But, by all means, I don't think you will be disappointed with this book. What the world needs right now are more characters with integrity and depth. And, I was very taken with the character of Becca, the main character of this book. Also, the plot is just downright GOOD. Not your usual boy meets girl, girl meets boy, some complications, boy and girl get together in the end. No, much more complicated than that. Becca is from a strict religious order that wants their members not to 'mingle' with the regular population (to any degree) But Becca's heart says otherwise, and what you get is a very good read.

A recommended read
A many layered tale of how actions and decisions and young love affect lives many years into the future. The characters are ones you can fall for - even Martha, who seems so rigid and disapproving, the silent, ailing Emmy whose tragedy is locked up inside her and the stoic Aaron, who also has his breaking point. The story unfolds in segments of 18 years ago and their lives now, the question is if they can undo some of the mistakes of the past, will they be able to move forward and be free of the secrets and lies that have bogged them down. When Matt's grandmother dies and he comes home for the funeral, will he and his first love Becca be able to reconcile or will Becca stay with the husband she has never loved the way she loves Matt? The story unfolds at a leisurely pace, but it is well written and I wanted it to last longer but still was anxious to find out what happens at the end. Despite what other reviews have said, I found it a very satisfying ending. One or two minor quibbles e.g. the rushed wedding at the end of the book that still had the white dress and the tux - how did they arrange all that in a day? I thought there were inconsistencies in when Martha's husband (Becca & Emmy's father) died, but not sure if it is because of the time frame of the book changing. There is also nothing about why Becca has not had any children of her own with Aaron, but of course this would further complicate the story! If you like stories about relationships you will love this, not just between Becca and Matt but all the other members of their family too.
