I dont know why the silver layer looks like used and wearing out.But It is worth buying. Not light weight.Overall, I give only 4stars.

i selected this mortar and pestle because it was the closest i could find to ones i used cooking in india. very lucky to have found this because the weight is perfect for grinding up spices, pressing ginger a bit, etc. thus far, it is definitely a staple in my kitchen!

Nice. Strurdy and easy to clean. Good for crushing. If you are looking to shred then get rough stone one.
