Douglas AD/A-1 Skyraider

Thus far the best monograph on the AD/A-1 Skyraider in print, and a sterling exposition of the fact that the plane had a long and useful life long before its use in Vietnam. This volume's focus on the early model AD's from development up thru the Korean War, which has been sparsely handled in the aviation press until now, makes this book all that much more welcome. Mr. Ginter provides detailed diagrams and up close photographs of perfect clarity to satisfy even the most ardent fan of this great airplane. The added bonus of developmental unit and individual squadron histories, particularly of USMC deployment during and after Korea, only filled the work out to near perfection.Some might complain of the lack of color photos or profile drawings. I don't see this as a drawback, first because so many of the photos are from factory and maintenance manuals and records or contemporary archive sources which were most likely not in color originally, and second because that information is readily available elsewhere. (Hint for the fastidious: the airplanes were blue).If you are even a passing fan of this unique aircraft and are curious about many of it's earlier, otherwise scantily documented incarnations this is the book for you.Highly recommend!

As usual anything from Steve Ginter is complete (even though this will only be the first volume, with hopefully many more to follow) and provides insights and information about this special bird that have not appeared in many other places.

Lack of good 3 view scale drawings a model builder could work with. Good reference for markings.

This book continues Steve Ginter's great coverage of important aircraft. It contains all the details that an aviation enthusiast or a modeler can want.

シリーズ中、257ページというのは恐らく最高の厚さでしょう。その約2/3はダグラス社の写真、図面、イラストによる機体内外の細部の解説です。最後の1/3が海軍の開発関係や訓練部隊、そして海兵隊の使用部隊の記録になっていますが、スカイレイダーを1機でも使用した部隊は飛行船の部隊まで紹介する完璧ぶりで、写真も印刷もきれいです。飛行機の写真もさることながら、50年代のマイナーなスコードロンのパッチがイラストではなく写真で載っているのは驚きです。このシリーズは各飛行隊のカラー・イラストなどはないので、初めて買われる方はご注意下さい。”本丸”である海軍のVAやVAW飛行隊での活動歴、恒例の各メーカーのプラモ・キットの紹介もPART 2以降になります。先に挙げた部隊に興味のある方、機体構造などのメカ派の方にお勧めの一冊です。
