AN UNLIKELY PAIR
This chapter book is targeted for eight to twelve year olds; the easy going storytelling style and charming illustrations interspersed throughout make it visually appealing as well. I can’t make up my mind which character I love the most, Olivia, the seven year old mistress of the monster’s house or Burrufu, the melancholy monster. At the beginning of the adventure, Olivia is about to move from the city to a home four hours away in the country. She immediately endears herself to me when I read the note she left to the new tenants asking them to take care of the house and sending them hugs and kisses. Upon arriving at the old three story house, Olivia and her dog Tula begin to explore the home’s nooks and crannies. They hear noises in the attic; her father, Steve, tells her jokingly that maybe it is a monster. Olivia thinks he is making fun of her, and when he assures her that a monster in the house is good luck, she feels relief.Olivia can’t sleep and goes down to the kitchen to have some milk and cookies. To her surprise she spies a furry white claw stealing cookies! So the adventure begins….Olivia is determined to lure the creature out by setting a cookie trap. She discovers that the monster lives in the attic and is a writer like her father. Because Olivia’s dad spends lots of time in his study writing, she has lots of time on her own. Olivia learns that her friend Burrufu can make himself very large when he frightens people; he is fearful of going outside and scaring people. Olivia wants to make him feel wanted and secure so she tries to provide him with courage. One day Burrufu is discovered and chaos ensues. Will Olivia be able to remain friends with her monster, who is really a talented and sensitive writer or will they both be forced to relinquish their friendship due to the fears of others? This book contains approximately one hundred pages and ten short chapters. It can be used as a classroom read aloud or read independently as a chapter book for readers in the middle grades. There is plenty of humor and adventure. The plot contains enough twists and turns plus thought provoking issues to challenge the middle grade reader. Highly recommended.

A likable monster
I downloaded "My Monster Burrufu" for my granddaughter who is turning 7 in October. She reads very well and after I read the first few pages to her and her younger brother, she volunteered to read the rest. They were glued to the screen. . . Being a librarian, nurturing the hope that books will survive beyond cyberspace, I loved Burrufu just that much more because he wants to get on with his writing and not be disturbed, other than when he smelled the cookies. This is a delightful story which will challenge children to read more and if there's a word here and there that they don't understand, they only need to ask - is that not how we learn good reading and language skills? I highly recommend this story for children, either to be read by their parents or a sibling, or older children who will enjoy Burrufu's story, reading it for themselves.

Cute and Different
This is a kids book, and I'm not a kid, but I do have a kid so there's your disclaimer. This is a really interesting story. The main character, Olivia, is an interesting little girl with a big, fearless personality. Burrufu, the monster, is fully imagined; his problem (he's a monster) has forced him into a seclusion that Olivia drags him out of. It's a clever, age-appropriate story about seeing people for who they are and not just for what they look like. Though it's a "chapter book" it has a number of cute illustrations sprinkled through it that add a lot to the story.I'm not going to get all breathless and tell you how wonderful it is... but it's a good story, and I recommend it.

Well-rounded children's book about differences and acceptance
Adorable. My son, who had read this when he was seven, loved it. We enjoyed reading this story together. My Monster Burrufu also contains a message involving differences, judgment, friendship, and hope. Pictures topped it off - even on an eReader.

Appearances Are Deceiving
What a delightful story about prejudice and injustice. How we judge a "book" by its cover. It looks like a monster, so it must be one. When we learn to get to know others before we declare that we know. If we all watched out for each other, we'd all be okay. We don't need to watch out for number 1. We need to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Sweet
The cover is what intrigued me, causing me to get this book. Have two nephews and a niece, I like to look for books for them. This book was sweet and yes, it made me cry a bit, but the story was great. It had a great moral and made me smile and cry. I think I was more liking Olivia and how she changed Burrufu, bringing out his friendly and kind side, never showing fear and befriending someone "different".Loved this tale.

this is a great read for young and old
I just loved this story how Olivia enticed her monster to show himself, Burrufu will tug at your heartstrings as the friendship develops between the two. As you read this you will begin to think "I want a monster named Burrufu to live in my house too!!!" It was a really cute story that I was sad to come to the end

I would give it 10 stars if I could,
Poor little Monster! So different, SO SCARY, until, that is, a little girl with a big heart and bright mind accept him for who he is. Charming, absolutely charming. A great message of accepting others no matter their differences, yes it's a child's story but one I am keeping to share when I have Grandchildren.
