Great visibility for older/larger vehicles
There are a lot of dash/backup cams on the market, and we typically install one in any vehicle we have. Many will pass video through to the car's LCD display, which is great...but our older Chevy Suburban predates LCD displays and backup cameras. Since we frequently haul a boat or utility trailer, this seemed like a good choice. This system includes a very large and visible display as well as four cameras (side, rear views, but depending on size you could use one for the rear and one in front). The cameras communicate back to the dash screen via wireless connections (although you still need to hook up power to each unit). The dash screen allows you to view all four cameras at once in a split screen mode, or you can zoom in on a particular view for backing up, for example. I would prefer that you could control viewing with a touchscreen, not just the buttons at the bottom of the console, but this works pretty well. You can record sequences onto a standard memory card (it's supposed to support up to 128GB cards but we've found the 32GB card to be the most reliable). The unit will auto-record while driving, and just continuously overwrites the oldest footage on the card. That's obviously useful in case of accident.Installation was relatively simple, and we had the unit up and running within a couple of hours; most of our time was spent in getting power to the remote cameras.Honestly? This is overkill for our application. During installation it became clear that this is really something you'd want for a very large RV or semi, not a big SUV. Doesn't stop us from enjoying its use, however. ;-)Recommended.
